Great municipal course
Betterman seem to be putting in a real effort to improve this course. Will keep getting better I'm sure
Yikes!
The course was in such terrible condition. I've played here many times and although it's never been a superb course it's always been very playable and a decent course to play. Right now it feels like it's been abandoned. The fairways were rough and in generally terrible condition. Huge cracks in the ground, large holes randomly. Greens were uneven, patchy with areas that were either dry with no grass on it and some that were mossy and again huge chicks out of the surface too. I would upload images but the app won't let me right now.
In summary this course is need of desperate attention. Was sad to see how bad it was.
Typical Municipal run on a budget
The course has a decent layout with wide fairways and sloping greens. Friendly reception at the proshop and a good bar area, with unfortunately, a miserable female bartender
The tee boxes were well worn and need of refurbishment, there was a large number of huge cracks in the fairways due to drying clay, could easily break an ankle, you must stay alert! Bunkers were rough and many unraked, typical for a municipal course. The greens were acceptable although slow, but the balls did roll well with a good strike.
At nearly £100 for a 3ball we wouldn’t return as there are many other courses in great condition which are better value.
Excellent
Went to the bar food was fantastic girl at the bar top notch with the service. Then went to the range and onto the course all excellent. The greens was playing good best I've seen. Shout out to the greenkeepers.
Average public course with good greens
Tee boxes very worn, fairways had too many rabbit wholes the size of your foot. Many old bunkers were GUR filled with dirt. No directions signs on 3 holes. Dog leg holes would benefit with marker poles in the center of the Fairways. Greens were good, even when some repair work had been done.
Greens were in poor condition
Lot of GUR
But any game of golf is good for £17 !!!!
Poor fairways
Disappointed with the condition of the fairways. Grass too long and too many holes and cracks. Similar with most of the greens too. Played a better course the previous week for £8 less
Average
The first surprise was the numerous cow pats on the first hole, no signs of cows but all freshly discharged! Not sure what the rules are if your ball lands in one!!
The sand in the bunkers all needed refreshing, lots of stones and no one appeared to bother raking them.
Lots of ground under repair where appeared to be infilling old bunkers?
Greens were not in great condition, however this and the large number of cracks in the fairways might be down to the long spell of dry weather.
Ironically they were watering the 18th as we approached and made no effort to switch it off for us. So had to predict when to play to avoid getting wet.
Overall not great but pleasant views.
Great course
Really enjoyed the course not sure why there are bad reviews got the round for £16 was worth every penny of that would definitely play again if I was in the area
Another pleasant day at mowsbury
Played a 4 ball at Mowsbury and as always enjoy the course there.
they are doing work in places at the moment and in places does look a bit tatty.
They have problems with rabbit /mole holes on some greens but overall it was ok and the course is a good lay out with interesting holes
Neglected
Have played here a few times over the years due to it being my nearest course but hadn't played the course in a year or 2.
Always really enjoy the layout and the interesting mix of holes. Such a shame it's always in a poor condition, the length of grass on the greens was closer to your average fairway, inconsistent bunker sand on most holes (some were soft white sand, others muddy clumps of builders sand).
Lack of an open bar at 6.30pm also meant our money went to the pub up the road instead.
Mowsbury should be a regular in our groups rotation, but it's just not good enough for the money being asked. Could be great with a bit of investment and TLC but unfortunately it'll never happen being a municipal course.
I'll continue to occasionally use the driving range but the course ? Maybe we'll try again in another year or 2 if it's not sold off for housing by then.
Good Course for price
Not too challenging for a high handicap like myself, course was in good condition, but greens were ok.
A lot of the bunkers have been taken out or are under repair.
In all good value for the price and a good bar with reasonable prices.
Not worth the money
£40 for a round here is exceptionally steep. The greens and tee boxes were very poor. Green grass length different on every hole and multiple greens were bobbly and had genuine lumps out of them. If I was looking to play in Bedford again, I would absolutely be trying another course.
Positives were the pace of play, rarely held up at all.
Bloke behind the desk in the pro shop was friendly.
A Sorry Looking Course
First visit for 20+ years and so sad to see it in such poor condition. The photos tell it all. Thread bare fairways. Multiple bunkers GUR. Greens not too bad but overall condition was very poor. Felt like a course being run down for sale. The final nail in the coffin was at 5.30pm the bar had already been closed so nowhere to have a drink. When I questioned the pro behind the desk he couldn’t have looked less interested.
Save your money and go elsewhere
Not bad
Not a bad course, felt like greens hadn’t been mowed for a day, quite fuzzy and not very true also a number were suffering from a hydraulic leek from the mower. bunkers are shallow but see this a lot on council courses.
With some money behind it, it could be an excellent course
