Pristine Condition
We were fortunate enough to pick up a Saturday afternoon HOT DEAL for £20 at Newbury & Crookham the day of the clubs 150th championship. Although the course had been played by a lot of people in the morning, the greens were superb (fast and true) and the fairways in good condition with tough, but not card ruining, rough. Maybe because the members were playing for a big silver cup - all the bunkers were well sanded and raked very neatly (one of my biggest golf annoyances, it isn't hard to rake a bunker !). The Par 3's are all a bit quirky, especially the 17th and the course is tough enough for a low handicap player but not impossible for a high handicapped player. We do always play of yellow tees, but the competition whites didn't look too daunting. Lovely course and a nice pint after.
Newbury and Crookham-perfect!
Played with a friend and had a brilliant round of golf on a delightful course. The course condition was exemplary, greens super smooth and fast , fairways in good condition and overall course condition excellent. Surprised how hilly the course is but this added to the character of the holes and the challenge.
One of the oldest courses in the country celebrating 150 years
Definitely play there again if I get the chance.
Saturday round
Not too busy for a weekend afternoon. Course and greens in great condition. Would definitely play it again.
I have wanted to play Newbury & Crookham for years, but never found the right time. Glad I rectified that this afternoon. The course was in good nick for mid April. Fairways were very good with a good covering of grass and the greens were deceptively quick, especially if past the pin and facing a downhiller. I should think that they will be firm and fast in a few more weeks. Good layout that is quite hilly, that held the interest, in particular, a great collection of par 3s. The 3rd is a lovely downhill short hole, where you’ll get some good hang time. The 6th is just over 100 yards uphill and semi blind. The 9th is much longer, but a large green is there to collect your ball, however if the pin is at the back, beware! 15 & 17 are the short holes on the return home. 15 is solid, but 17 really catches your eye from the tee. Good food before the round, and clubhouse welcoming. Well done N&C GC. 150 years old in 2023!
Very Enjoyable Round
The course was in very good condition considering recent weather. I only recall one instance when I needed to take relief from wet ground underfoot. Greens were fast and true for the time of year too. Bunkers were all very playable. In all, a very enjoyable round
Completely different to how I imagined it to be.
As a beginner golfer it was very challenging but great fun and exciting!
Newbury and Crookham
Myself and Alan really enjoyed stealing away from work and getting a round of golf in at Newbury & Crookham.
Everything was seamless; Pro-shop helpful, members friendly, course in really good condition. The man at the bar was kind and thoughtful and ithe whole afternoon was a delight.
Made a new friend (young George the pilot) - one of the overlooked advantages when booking less than a full tee time with Golf Now - you often get to make a new acquaintance.
Would highly recommend Newbury & Crookham to all golfers.
Good course normally however
Good course enjoyed playing in summer. Unfortunately due to weather was temporary greens which was a disappointment as wasn’t informed before hand
Hot Deal from GN
Superb course, played during the winter. Drainage must be fantastic as you could hardly tell it was late November.
Stunning
This course is gorgeous. Some lovely holes. Superb tee boxes, fairways in great condition, greens perfect and rapid. My playing partner and I were very impressed and hope to visit again soon.
Wow what a Gem
We arrived and were greeted in the pro shop by two friendly gentlemen who said we were in for a treat as the greens had been prepared for the club championship. They weren't kidding it was immaculate, with the greens being lightning quick and true.
I can't fault the course, on the 17th my playing partner who lives an hour away from the course said "I want to come back tomorrow. Great course very friendly and beautiful.
A hidden gem
An excellent course not the longest but with plenty of challenge and superb quick greens. Course design, layout and condition was superb. Very friendly staff - bar, pro shop, general manager - all very helpful and made us feel very welcome.
