Decent Round of Golf
Not the easiest place to find as my Google maps took me down a side road - not the courses fault but just a warning for others!
Course itself I have played twice - first time was in April and the course was in very nice condition - some interesting holes - not overly difficult and quite an easy walk round.
Second time playing was last week - the course was obviously struggling with the very hot weather and lack of water on the course! Fairways were literally burnt to a crisp and as hard as the road you drive on to get to the course. Greens were well maintained but probably if anything over watered and not cut tight enough for what you would expect from a good fast summer green. Bunkers nearly unplayable as they were rock solid after 2cm in.
Overall a decent course but on course management needs a little help especially to deal with the warmer weather the UK summers are throwing up now! Id play again in winter but not worth £23 for a summer round!
excellent value
course in great condition will be even better after some rain , greens were true and fast 15th hole closed due to ongoing drainage work but was offered an extra hole of our choice will be returning
Normanby Hall golf course
This is beautiful course for a high handicapper like myself the pro is a gentleman and was extremely helpful although the fairways needed water everything else was superb would recommend to everyone
Members rule
We were a two ball stuck behind a four ball who would have let us pass but said the slow playing four ball in front of them were holding them up and were renowned for letting other golfers through. There was at least two holes clear in front of them so I asked the steward if we could go in front of them and he allowed them to point blankedly refuse so we gave up in the end as the pace was so slow. It was disgraceful behaviour which is very poor golf etiquette
Shame as the course (that we played) was really good
Good value for money
Played Normanby several times in the past but not since 2009. It has matured nicely into a tight course with plenty of long par 4’s, fairly long par 3’s and four par 5’s.
Greens were a bit bobbly but we were told by one of the members that they had not long been spiked and too dressed and are usually in much better condition.
Lovely course
Played this course on Easter Monday. It was busy but the pace of play was good. It's a very attractive course with some testing holes and a stream coming into play on several of them. The greens could have been better but it is early in the season. Did not go into the clubhouse afterwards but really enjoyed our day and will definitely be back.
Cracking Course
Played Normanby Hall for the first time and we weren’t disappointed. The course was in great condition, tee’d off in -1 conditions and finished in 10+. Will definitely visit again!
Course in reasonable condition for the time of the year only problem for me was that quite a few tee were of mats
Good value
A well priced course with a good layout 14th hole and 15th are a bit dull .The 15 th hole was closed due to weather .Quite a challenging course especially the par 3 s when not on winter tees.
Normhall
Excellent condition especially for the time of year
Top Municipal
Sadly the day we played we’d hard a very hard over night frost & to our dismay the greens were rock solid .
On arrival I reported into the pro shop. The pro acknowledged me but seemed busy behind the counter & although I tried to make small talk about the fact the last time I’d played the course was 20 years ago, he didn’t seem interested.
Still he pointed me in the direction of the cloakroom & cafe were I was greeted with a smile from the cafe staff. I order a coffee & a bacon bun which was very nice.
On the course it was fairly quiet & so we had a pleasant round without too much pressure. My friend just learning the game so it was a bit like army golf.
The course hadn’t changed at all & was still in excellent condition considering it’s winter.
It was impossible to hold on the greens so it was a case of dropping short & chipping on until the sun came out around hole 13 & the greens softened.
My favourite hole is the 3 rd , a dog leg left . Getting the right club off the tee is paramount.
It’s quite a long course but not boring. Lots of trees but very fair to the average golfer.
I paid £15 & was happy with that. Il definitely be back in summer .
Well worth a visit.
Whilst I never seem to bring my best game to NH I shall continue to return to my favourite golf course in the area. NH provides a fair test to any player. The par 5’s play long and the par 3’s test ball control. The greens were in excellent condition for the time of year. I love the course and will be back
Avoid ladies day Tuesday 10am
Excellent course, only spoiled on the front nine by being pushed by 3 lady members who proceeded to hit the ball every 20 yards and shuffle along as if it was a race
We were playing fast, but they were playing out of turn without even the thought of a practice swing or lining shots up (No need as it only goes 20 yards every time anyway) as if they needed to get back to do the ironing, cook dinner, or get to bingo
Great course, very interesting and needing some thought to put a score together. After gales and snow, it was in excellent condition still. You'll struggle to find any in better nick for this time of year
Golf with great guys
Saturday, I booked to play a round, unfortunately on my own at Normandy Hall. I have always thought it’s a great challenge, particularly for my limited ability. Upon arrival, I learned the course was very busy, fortunately I approached a 3-ball group about joining them, they were happy to have me tag along. The other chaps played some good golf, myself not so much but I was encouraged all the way round.
The course was in excellent shape, dry, little wind and otherwise perfect for a friendly round. Loved every minute, made new friends and will definitely be back again soon.
