Course conditions were terrible. Fairways hardly mowed & clover patches all over. Greens were good. Tee boxes not taken care of at all. Was not pleased to be paying £45 for a round there.
The coarse was in good condition and an enjoyable day out. Definitely be back!!
Matches
Booked the tee time through golf now. But what it didn't tell you was there was competition matches all Infront of the time I had chosen. So there was 4 teams of 4 balls Infront of me. Only ended up playing 9 holes for the round I had paid for. 1,2,3,4 then had to skip to do 15,16,17,14,18. And that was just instead of walking back to club house after only playing 4 holes. If there is competition matches on the course at certain times. These numbers of golfers and times should be stated before you book a time. As I would have booked somewhere else
Welcoming
We booked on golf now, all went smoothly in pro shop,, you're layout really good and in great condition.
My only niggle was the kitchen was open and we asked if any sandwiches available," there were none made up,",, was the reply!!!!!
Lots of people walking on the course that weren’t playing like dogs and there owners meant to be private
Lovely course with extremely friendly members!
Booked a twilight round for a great bargain price on a Saturday evening. When I arrived the pro shop had shut (likely due to the football being on and a lot of members being there to watch!) Some members sorted me out a scorecard however and wished me luck, and I was on my way. The course was in great condition, and the few people I did come across were very friendly and welcoming. Will absolutely make this a regular visit, honestly I'm considering looking into membership!
SLOW
I went here after reading good reviews and went as a single golfer to hopefully get round pretty quickly. This was not the case as the staff informed me that there was nobody in front of me for about 20 minutes. Well within 5 holes i caught 3 x 4 balls who were all playing at a snails pace. I managed to get to hole 10 after it taking just under 2 hours to compete holes 5-10 and had to call it a day because of the awfully slow play.
Course was in good condition and really scenic. Brings you back to the clubhouse on hole 9 and then back out into the wilderness until hole 18.
Normanton golf course
One of the best courses I’ve played.
Great course with great variety of holes not just your standard tree line course. Water hazards, bunkers galore and some amazing views as you go round
Would recommend to anyone. Prices on a deal is great and normal fees are with in similar to other courses
Clubhouse great and good pro shop
Will go back (a lot)
Normanton golf course
Very well maintained course not far from where I live and never played it b4, not sure why, will definitely be returning ,nice steady round, greens challenging but in v-good condition.
Course in good condition apart from the odd bits here and there.
Keep saying it but need to hire a buggy because of the hills on a few holes especially when it’s sunny.
Play was a bit slow due to a couple of four balls in front and then taking a lifetime to look for balls all the time.
I will definitely be playing here again and would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants to go here.
Why don't they tell you?
Ok, so this review in no way reflects the members or the course itself. The guys I spoke to were friendly and welcoming and the course layout was interesting and challenging.
The thing is, the challenge came from the sheer amount of mud on this very wet course.
I know we've had a lot of rain and there's nothing anyone can do about that. But it is not unfair to say that at least a third of the holes were virtually unplayable.
For example, on the 7th I cracked a drive straight down the middle of the fairway only for it never to be seen again. Mud was so deep here it came over my shoes in the middle of the fairway!
It was the same on the 3rd - a lovely uphill par 3, I hit a metre to the right if the green and the the ball plugged so deep it was lost forever. And sonitcwent on.
Again, we can't help the weather, but clubs should say that conditions are bad... Or close some holes.
I know clubs want to give a service to their members and guests, but it will take months for some of these fairways to recover.
As it was, I paid via Golf Now so got a deal, but it was still £30. 'Normal' guests are paying £40 +but only getting half a course.
Look, the course is lovely and I will be back .. not untill the middle of summer though!
I’ve played this course a few times and it’s always in great condition. When seeing it was £15 for a round here I couldn’t not go, the course for this time of year was in better condition than some are in the middle of summer despite it raining most of the day before.
Tee’s and greens were in good condition so it made the round a lot better.
If you are looking for a course to be in good condition this time of year then this is definitely the place to go.
Beautiful course. Would suit a better golfer than me!
be prepared to lose a few balls on this course. Lots of dog legs and rough. Superb condition apart from the bunkers which were a bit gravelly. Greens immaculate.
The shop at half way was shutting as we got there, and there were at least an hour’s more tee times after us.
I would definitely play there again
Course in good condition
Weather was perfect and the course was in good condition
Word of warning, slow play, there was a 4 ball in front that was holding everybody up continually spending over 5 minutes on EVERY hole looking for balls and would not let people through.. as a result this ground everybody down who was waiting and I walked off on the 16th, enough is enough. Torture!
This has happened on 3 occasions now when I have played here but the last time took forever. There’s a reason I will not join a gold club!
Overhaul, a very nice club and I have meet some very nice people playing here and had plenty of time to chat with them!
Nice course layout, but poor greens and unfriendly staff
I played this course as it was nearby to where I was working and the round came in around £30.
The course layout and practice facilities were great, there are some really enjoyable par 4s that are within Birdie range for high handicappers too.
Green quality was a bit of a let down as they were very bobbly and incredibly slow, even for this time of year. I’d say they were more of a £20 round quality.
This I can accept but the thing that really left a bad taste in my mouth was the aggressive nature of one of the course staff.
A man approached me to let me know not to take my buggy on the apron, fair enough, but the man got right up to my face and tried to intimidate me, no pleases or thankyous at all.
If I was perhaps a little more nervous I would have thought he was about to attack me.
Another concern is groups of golfers not shouting fore when Mis-hitting, I was nearly hit by a stray ball a couple of times while out!
An enjoyable course other than that and the green quality, but I imagine the unprofessionalism and borderline violent nature of the staff on the course will prevent me and others from visiting.
I hope the club can review these aspects as it has a lot of potential.
Conditions
Course was wet . Greens a bit bobbly. Tees on mats . Once dry this Course will be excellent
