Great course to test your game
This course you don't need driver off the tee for most of the holes. Because of the tree lined fairways and dog legs. So long irons of the tee to hit those straight shots and good course management to obtain that low score.
A treasure
My friend and I play all over the East Midlands. This gem is fast becoming a favourite due to the friendly welcome from staff and members and a great value for money course. Treasure it.
Ormonde golf course
1st time we’ve played the course & have to say we really enjoyed it
Definitely be coming back
Good course
Well we arrived at a little gem of a course. The lay out is really good large open fairways and really good greens . Got some really nice holes . Only downside we had was light rain after about 10 holes but that’s the luck of the draw . Then we got behind a 4 ball who just wouldn’t let us through even though they was looking for balls quite a lot . But we will definitely play this course again value for money at only £22 and we had a buggy £25 bargain
Lovely course.
Lovely fairways and greens are running fast with this warm weather. Definitely worth having a buggy in this warm weather. Some hilly holes but also some great nice flat ones as well. Definitely would play again before the autumn arrives with the condition it is playing in.
Hidden Gem!
What a lovely course this is, every hole is different.
If you haven’t played this course before then go ahead and book it. I travelled a long way to play it and I will definitely be back. Staff and members very friendly and helpful!
Very memorable course
Really blown away by the superb condition and lay out of this course. We were on 5 days tour in The Peak District, Derbyshire and Nottingham. Ormonde Fields was the last course we played. The greens are 10/10, fairways are pristine, the whole course is well manicured so huge credit to all greens staff. Hilly but very manageable and really fun to deal with the well placed obstacles and hazards. On average I lose 2 balls a round but my one ball survived the full 18 despite my few errant shots towards the rough. I found 6 balls too! I can honestly say that Ormonde is better than a very popular and more expensive course nearby that we played (I don’t want to mention the name). For the standard green fee it charge, I think it’s quite cheap for what it has to offer to visitors. Ormonde is the 321st course I’ve played so far and I only write reviews about a course that really deserve a good review.
Interesting course
Such an interesting course, full of unexpected holes that offer a lot of challenges. It's quite hilly and a good walk. Greens were excellent.
After a few days of heavy rain was expecting it to have a few holes closed, but all 18 was open, buggies were allowed, slightly boggy in certain areas to the side of fairways other than that the course was spot on, will be returning to play again.
Ormonde 18 holes
Excellent course, great condition. Amazing variety of holes. Very well laid out. Offers a mixture of challenging and enjoyable holes for all abilities!
course is well manicured, and you can see the groundsmen really care, but…
The course is well manicured, and you can see the groundsmen really care, but the course suffers from lack of drainage. Resulting in boggy conditions in the rough on the fairways on some holes. Pace was slow as there was two x4 balls in a match in front. We don’t like to rush anyway. To the x3 players running behind also in the match. Who, we told there’s no rush, We can only go as fast as the players in front and please in future let players clear the green side,, before nearly hitting us in the head!!! Knowing it was slow play in front…What’s another 30 seconds for us to move from the side of the green? To avoid injury…
Very wet fairways damaged
The course was very wet, very difficult to find golf balls on fairways or in rough, turned up 10 minutes before tee time no one to be seen in shop or clubhouse, all facilities clised
Abysmal conditions.
Like a swamp. No way they should have allowed anyone to book.
The worse condition course I have ever played .. layout great!
I have given this course 2 stars which is the lowest I have ever given a course on here over hundreds of reviews. One star is for the layout which is probably one of the most interesting I have seen for a while. The other is for the greens which amazingly were really nice, although had not been mowed. As for the rest, terrible. I phoned and asked if it was fully open given most courses were struggling they said yes summer greens, winter tees. So I drove the hour to get there. I had a drink in the bar and listened to people raving about College Pines which is the best winter course in my own area (plus Kilton). I spoke to the pro in the shop, who was watching football and gave out minimal information. The first hole is an interesting layout but we struggled to locate the actual fairway given the grass was not defined. But, as soon as we stepped off the tee off mat, we knew why. It was a swamp on every fairway, even the rough on EVERY hole. On some holes it was literally like hitting across a field (13th) as you could not even tell if there had ever been a fairway. Only the greens made it worth trudging, losing shoes, losing balls in the middle of the comedy fairways and wanting to see the layout which I say again could be amazing in a dry summer. The course should not have been open and definitely should not have been 28 pounds. We decided that we would have it out with the Pro when we trudged back, but he was long gone at 5pm, probably realising the course was stealing money at 28 quid. The daft thing is I would go back in the height of summer as the layout is really interesting. But if the members there think thats golf, then they should move to Worksop and play College Pines and Kilton Forest. I have a real problem with courses that are not open and honest about condition, just say its bad out there but we are open to ensure we still have an income in touch times, so please bear with us. This course is worth maybe 10 to 15 pounds as it is, do not pay anything more until there has been a long dry period. Sorry OFGC as I imagine this course can be lovely.
Winter golf
Even though it was freezing temperatures the course had holes 4-18 open. Course was in really good condition!
Played here through last winter and value for money is fab to get some golf in.
Wet
Make sure you play when it has been dry a few days before, drainage is non existent! If it’s dry, one of the best courses around, challenging but a great play 👍😃⛳️
Challenge On
I’ve played this course about 6 times now and if I was living closer I would definitely become a member. The course has all the challenges you need playing golf and yet still makes it fun to play even with a handicap of 19. The layout of the course is great and well thought out to challenge all shot variations & the part 3’s needed me to play with a 5 wood. I can’t wait to play this course during the summer months as I am sure it becomes a different course again.
As for the amenities, they are wanting but staff and customers are very friendly and willing to listen to of your attempts to crack the course.
All in all this is a tidy course that needs to be played.
Very nice course
It is a very nice course. Somehow I have never heard of it or seen it up until now. But will definitely play it again.
Was a bit if a shame that we had so much rain recently meaning some of the fairway and alot of the rough was extremely wet making it a challenge at times. But we still had a good round and would definitely recommend
