Great views.
Great fairways and greens, splendid views around a hilly course.
Friendly staff in pro shop and club house, with a good food/drink choice.
Our first time but we will be back, a very nice course with some tricky goes.
Course
ORMONDE FIELD GOLF COURSE WAS IN GREAT CONDITION AND THE GREENS WERE TRUE AND ALL VERY CONSISTENT. THE PRO SHOP WAS WELL STOCKED AND THE PRO VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. ALL IN ALL A GREAT DAY
Great course
Top quality golf course. Tees, fairways and greens all very well kept. Opening hole is a fabulous start to the round. Greens not particularly quick today, but very true.
Lots of doglegs, mainly to the left. Fairways generous enough in width to allow for less than perfect tee shots, but too far off line you will be in the trees.
You need to be fit to play this course, as there are some big slopes to climb, but there are some great views from the top. Some longish walks between holes too.
Overall a good test of your golf game and certainly one I’d like to play again soon.
A bit tired…..
Generally the course seemed tired, the greens were in OK condition, there were lots of debris on them though, seemed like they’d not been tidied at all that week. One indication of the course upkeep was the bunkers, we’ve had rakes back in bunkers for over a week now and not one had been raked, the level of the sand was really low and I’d describe it more as gravel. Because of this £20 was a bit steep for the condition.
An ok track
Greens were in good condition and course well manicured. Very long green to tee, lots of 320 yard par 4s and finishes on a par3. Main issue was that it felt squashed into a space, lots of blind holes and slopes so easy to hit a good straight shot and lose a ball, not easy and very frustrating for a mid-handicapper. Fair value for £20 I paid but 4.5 hours so hard work
A good challenge
Played this course a few times now, well looked after and a good standard of greens. Very good value for money, friendly clubhouse atmosphere with some nice food. All in all definitely worth a visit.
Much Improved
Having played Ormonde many years ago this is a much improved course. The layout is good and challenging coupled with being excellently maintained by their staff. Greens could have been quicker but they were in good condition.
Very good condition
First time playing but would recommend reading about the holes prior. Few blind greens etc but overall one of the best courses in Derbyshire, easily. Challenging but in great condition so plays well. Bravo to the ground keepers. Greens run well and fairways attractive.
Nearly Very Good
Overall the course and facilities were good. Staff very friendly and attentive with outside service. Greens were nearly there but need the growth accelerating with feed to fill-in some indentations and allow to be cut lower for better ball speed
Lovely knock
Played ormand fields today with a friend who’s never played there before and to be honest I’ve not played there for about 4 years … but course was lovely , fairways forgiving if a little wayward , greens how ever if you knocked the ball long or off target punished you by having no backstops or side stops but hey your problem for hitting the shot … had a good day play was good staff very polite and helpful.. definitely a course to play again
Always interesting
So many different holes and no two the same. Have to say one of the friendliest clubs I've had the pleasure of playing at
Drive to OFGC?!
This mature course located in the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire is a must visit for all golfers. All of the holes have great character and shape. A genuine test of golfing ability, tests your long and short game.
The course is in great condition with signature holes at ten and seventeen. Greens are fast with subtle and not so subtle breaks! A handful of blind tee shots add to the challenge. Great course to visit, get yourself there!
A little gem
Great course, no 2 holes the same, need to be able to draw and fade the ball. Definitely need a yardage book or scope as length off the tee is key on a lot of holes. Negotiate that and then u have the rather slick greens!
Loved it
I've driven by this course many times and always wondered what it was like! Absolutely wonderful is the answer! I'm not usually fond of hilly courses but this one is easily manageable for me. Maybe if there was one thing I could criticize it would be that some of the greens were a bit patchy but we've not had any rain for weeks so maybe understandable! I will definitely be back many more times in the future! Brilliant golf club!
Enjoyable
Nice course in good condition. Pace of play was an issue. 4 hours as a one ball stuck behind two four balls and then nothing in front for several holes. Most holes I got to the tee as they were still hacking away or looking for balls 50 yards away often in the trees. Not once was an offer made to play though even as one of the players went back to the clubhouse to relieve himself mid-hole.
Other than this, it was alright.
