Save your money
Overall condition of the course was pretty bad to say the least especially given the amount of time they have had due to lock down to get it in tip top shape.firstly tee box markers are none existent leaving you pretty much guessing, the majority of the greens were terrible(bumpy as with bald patches) and rock solid, the bunkers were a disgrace as there was more weeds and grass in them than sand, the signage leaves a lot to be desired especially when you finish the 9th hole(even someone we ask who had played there before where is the 10th said not sure think it's a 5 min walk down there) then a member said just keep walking down there and you'll come to it seriously it cost pennies to make signs, put sand in bunkers de weed, feed greens the list goes on.and one final moan which was quite significant for me and probably others, dont expect to use skydroid app etc for yardage, distance hole guide as apparently the adjusted the front nine quite a while ago so if you must play here use a range finder or guess as we had to.there are also numerous public paths and tracks were the public are free to roam, there was even parents and kids sat on a tee box on one hole so honestly be careful as we encountered a seriously high amounts of people just wandering around, I really would be shocked it someone is not seriously hurt at some point.on a positive note the course could really be excellent with more thought, care, and a little bit of time and money spent on it
Great round
I just started to play this course and have found it great value for money.
The holes aren’t as easy as they first look with some tricky pin placement.
Greens and fairways in great condition tees could do with a bit of work but for a well used corse the green keepers keep the course in great condition.
I would recommend a visit.
Course needs attention
The tees were overgrown and the Fairways needs moving particularly just off fairway far too many places wheee deep rough meets fairway.
The greens need watering they were very slow
You need to learn the layout otherwise even straight drives can result lost ball as the course is very undulating and because you don’t have a first cut and second cut just off fairway you end up in deep rough and potentially losing your ball
Regent park
Good municipal course. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good facilities on site. Tee boxes etc in great condition for time of the year. Bunkers are grassy in stages and the back nine is in a better condition than the front nine. Found it a testing round of golf and killed my scorecard on the6th/7th and 8th holes even though I wasnt striking bad but lost a couple of balls as Fairways aren’t really there as it’s more like semi rough and rough is relentless (good luck finding the ball) but the course layout is very good and has a good couple of par 5s with plenty of features like water hazards and boundary markers. Overall a good course. Worth a play to test yourself but will also test your patience looking for balls you feel you shouldn’t have lost.
Decent for money
Greens in good condition.
Front 9 fairways needed a cut.
Nice variety of holes.
Overall good for the price.
I paid £10. If they wanted more I'd probably play somewhere else.
Surprising
Course surprised me has had American golf management so when I booked was expecting bog standaard municipal any way first nine up and down good test has tee off in to wind a lot , greens were good and a number of water hazards , water had range has I have said American golf pro shop , I think course is work in progress A MUST PLAY.
Slow play
Decent course, greens were running well, fairways were good. It’s quite a wide forgiving course but if you go off line, say bye to your ball as the rough, semi rough is horrendous. We flew through the opening nine holes and had momentum going. However going past the 1st hole to the 10th and there were 3 groups of 4 teeing off. When we got to the 10th 3 groups of 3 had materialised from nowhere. Spoke to 2 of the groups who said they had been told to start on the 10th by reception. This led to lots of standing around and waiting 10-15mins on each hole to tee off. Spoke to reception at end of round who didn’t seem bothered. Spoiled a good round
Needs some TLC and better drainage
Firstly, the good news. £10 to play on a Saturday morning at pretty much anytime you wanted, has to be a bargain.
Bad news was that only 14 holes open, (which was made clear on booking), so you had to play some holes twice. Tees aren't great, but usable. Fairways mostly ok, but some boggy areas that need better drainage. Bunkers are generally poor and need more sand and raking. Greens slow and bumpy and in need of more attention and maintenance.
The back nine is generally in better condition and a bit more interesting, so it would be better playing that twice.
Conclusion is, with a bit more investment and better everyday maintenance, it could be a very good course, that you would be happy to pay double.
Will not play here again
I would not recommend this course. The tees were just muddy patches - no attempt to rotate tee positions to avoid over use. The front nine fairways were the worst kept I have ever come across on any course in the whole Bolton area. Virtual quagmire is some places and little effort made in installing any suitable drainage systems. The pathways between holes were very poor - anywhere with a dip was just mud. The bunkers did not have sand - just weeds and could not have had any attention at all in the previous 12 months. The back nine were marginally better but certainly not enough to make me want to play this course ever again or to recommend it to anyone
Worst ever played
Like playing in a wet swamp. On the first 9 wondered if they owned a mower. The tee boxes were 3 inches long couldn't see the difference between the fairways and the rough. Last 9 better and could see the potential - the pictures were obviously taken on a day that did not reflect a normal day.
Cored
Coring the greens 13 of the greens on temp and then told when I arrived it would of been cheaper to book direct teeoff times need to get a grip of this because a lot of clubs are now using BRS with no booking/ admin fee. Not very happy.
Avoid this course at all costs
No words to describe this course really apart from its a golf course of a very poor standard, muddy tee boxes that have,nt seen a mower for weeks fairways sub standard full of water bad drainage being the problem here, bunkers full of weeds and what sand that is in these bunkers was hard and compact overall not a course to play decent golf on,if I was the professional here I would leave and find a job at a decent golf club.
Great course, although typical of a municipal UK course
Course layout was really nice with some interesting holes. Not too challenging, so ideal for a golfer with a mid-high handicap to have a social round. Encouraged a lot of risk taking in terms of driving greens.
Condition of the greens was good too, I've played more prestigious courses very recently that have been a lot worse.
The only downside is that the pathways and bunkers were poor quality and needed work. Clubhouse was old and shabby, we didn't want to stick around for a bite to eat afterwards.
Would I play it again? Yes probably.
Absolutely bang on. The course layout is brilliant. Maintenance needs to be better. Now that American golf is in the equation this may change. Fingers crossed
