Beautiful Views Sadly Tainted by pace of play
Booked via golf now £25 each for me and a friend for 11:10 on a weekend, for a weekend before mid-day I thought this was a fantastic price. Turned up and was told we shouldn't have been able to book that slot as members and a society were booked to go out at those times and were told we would have to go off 20 minutes later. This I thought was only a minor issue and gave an opportunity to spend extra time using the practice facilities which were reasonable (although no range) before teeing off.
However the 4 balls which consisted of mostly older players which were sent off in front of us were quickly caught on the 4th hole after a 2 ball kindly let us through. They didn't let us through for the entire round, we watched them all hit about 12+ shots on an uphill par 4 into wind and hit almost every tee shot <150 yards, I also witnessed one of them 4 putt from under 2ft (Maybe this is harsh as John Rahm did it in the 23 masters). This was in addition to constantly leaving their cart behind them and having to walk back to it, leaving bags the wrong side of the green, standing on the green after finishing counting up scores. For a 5000 yard course their round took just under 5 hours and because of them ours was only slightly shorter.
Rant over, views were stunning, course was very tricky and lots of hidden bunkers and hazards, green condition was largely pretty good. My recommendation would be to employ a martial at peak times to keep on top of these issues, or at the very least have signs at different points saying what pace of play should be e.g for a 4 ball at the 10th hole you should be no more than 2 hours.
Must visit course
A return visit to Sidmouth having played at the end of last Summer. Friendly and helpful staff - big thanks to Colin for fixing my tee time booking issue.
The course is really picturesque - coastal views at the start and end, and meandering woodland climbing up to the 9th, before winding back down towards the sea. It's hilly and sloping - we carried with no issues, but if you have any mobility problems, buggy or cart is recommended.
The course itself is challenging and rewarding in equal measure - par 66, sloping fairways, elevation changes and tricky greens. 1 of 2-3 courses in the area I'll make a point of playing when I'm in the area.
An acquired taste
The course as some interesting holes. The fairways basically slope left to right on the way out then right to left on the way back. I played better with the ball above my feet than below. If you want a flat stance this is not the place for you. The members we spoke to were very friendly and some of the coast views are spectacular. Certainly an experience. Handicap 10 ( 42 out 36 home )
Great Winter Golf
Sidmouth was in great condition considering the time of year. Not too wet underfoot, greens tight and surprisingly quick. Some tee boxes were mats but not all. Short course but the gradients made for a challenging round, lots of lies below or above your stance. Played through two members 4balls, all very friendly and welcoming, giving me tips for the upcoming holes. Unfortunately no food being served in the clubhouse on a Thursday but not the end of the world as lots of nice places to eat nearby in Sidmouth. Thoroughly enjoyed my round and look forward to playing again.
Fabulous views
Course in very good condition and while busy pace of play just right.
Excellent welcoming course
Really enjoyed the round
Challenging course on the hillside
It being the Christmas holiday very busy and therefore a bit slow
However would thoroughly recommend and felt really welcomed and the staff were all very helpful
Course in great condition given time of year. The addition of new paths and upgraded winter tees an added bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Pace of play
Really welcoming club with good facilities and course layout. The only criticism is the pace of play. It took just over 4 hours to a complete a two ball! Would definitely play there again but hope that the exceptionally slow round was a one off.
Chilly round at Sidmouth
Course lovely and quiet probably to do with the temperature. Despite recent storms pretty dry underfoot and in good condition. Lots of tee off mats but majority were new.
Two ball at Sidmouth
Lovely sunny day and despite Storm Bert course perfectly playable albeit a bit slippery on some of the slopes. Just the one temporary green and tee boxes and majority of greens in good condition.
Loved this course!!!
Great course! It felt quite a long course but that may be because it’s quite hilly (or not as fit as I could be!). We only got 13 holes in as we ran out of light which was a shame because we were having a fab time! The condition of the course is fantastic and the setting is lovely within the surrounding trees overlooking Sidmouth, with also some sea views in the distance. A challenging course both physically and for the game, but superb fun. My favourite course in the area by far!
Great course friendly helpful staff
Really enjoyed the course, it is a tough walk but more than made up by the stunning views and interesting holes.
Very friendly shop staff, Very sloped, always playing down or up on the ball
The course is well kept but it is on a hill and the fairways are very sloped. So as a fairly new golfer the first 9 on the top of the hill we're very difficult. Good mix of hazards, nice greens but very limited putting and driving practice.
The young man in the shop was an absolute delight, so polite, cheerful and very helpful
Enjoyable Golf
Had our selves a lovely day at Sidmouth
The course was in good condition
And friendly members and staff made it a enjoyable day
Course In Immaculate Condition
Loved playing Sidmouth despite a near calamity at the start when my trolley rolled downhill behind me, fortunately into a fence and not the cars in the nearby car park. The course was in spotless condition. I see a few reviewers have given adverse remarks about the slopes on many of the holes, however I had no issues with them. Any effect the slopes had was negligible and I really enjoyed my round. Great views over Sidmouth, the Jurassic Coast and Lyme Bay
Great views. Interesting layout.
If you don't like hitting the ball on a slope this course is not for you! The fair ways are sloped the greens are sloped your trolley and your ball want to run down the slopes. It was a different but an enjoyable challenge. Given the indifferent weather of 2024 the course was in good condition. The pace of play was slow as there was a few holes that cross fairways.
