Quite a varied course with some interesting holes
What I like about Six Hills:
- There's reasonable variation across the 18 holes (terrain, hazards, shape)
- There's a few holes where first shot is critical
- Some holes the pin can't be seen from tee which adds intrigue for first time players
- The lake and ponds add interest
- It's maturing nicely
- Tees and fairways are well maintained
- Many greens are undulating or raised to add to the challenge
What could be better:
- The greens, although fairly true, are fairly poor from a grass point of view
- Most of the bunkers don't have enough sand and it's a bit coarse
- The 150yd markers aren't always obvious
- Too many people leave broken tees on the tee and/or fail to get their rubbish in the bin
- No engagement at the point of registering my round in clubhouse
Definitely recommend
First time playing this course, and as Im a beginner I found it fairly challenging but really enjoyable. Greens were quite fast and well
Kept. Will be going again
Great coursw
First time here with a friend. Lovely course, well maintained. Definitely coming back.
Becoming a beautiful course.
I've been playing here since the trees were saplings and its maturing into a beautiful course.
The owners are a small team but you can see they work hard on keeping the course in top condition.
Its always been a cheap and cheerful place to play with no booking needed in the week so it was what it was but now its becoming a really nice course to play at.
Lovely condition greens, sand finally in the bunkers instead of mud. Its got wonderful scenery all around with holes over lakes and loads of 2 tier greens, big dogleg holes some monster par 5s. Each hole is different so you'd never call it a boring course.
I'd highly recommend anyone of any level playing here.
The only criticism is the lack of warmth and a welcoming greeting from the clubhouse, something that's so easy to do to encourage newbies to return but don't let it stop you from trying this wonderful course out.
Great course
Great course, punishing bunkers and tree lined fairways. Very, very long par 3’s (240 yards - example). But balances with shorter par 4’s. Great 17th tellytubby house green. Greens were really nice and well looked after. Enjoy!
Great course
Course was in good condition considering all the rain we've had this past week or so
Six Hills experience
On a day when other local courses were closed or otherwise unplayable we decided to give Six Hills a go. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the course was and although a bit wet in places it played very well. The staff were friendly and helpful and we will certainly go there again. Overall good value for money, not too busy midweek so plenty of parking available.
Six Hills by P. Hills
An excellent challenging course, full of such variety and interest. It can be rather wet but we had a fine dry day without wet feet after 18 holes.
Not as Expected
After seeing many recent positive reviews, I thought I’d check this course out. I was left disappointed.
After booking a tee time on here and then arriving to find we had been put back to a later time on the tee sheet, things didn’t start well. This was further exaggerated when we ended up teeing off 10 mins late due to late arrivals.
We found the course in poor overall condition, still very wet and in patches on some greens unplayable. Every tee had a mat which was for me too small to tee off from with driver and were set in some very strange places.
Whilst we got round in under 4 hours, we were still waiting long periods on each hole.
Course layout was mundane and it wasn’t until the 18th that I enjoyed a golf hole. I won’t be back in a hurry.
A very good course to play.
A thoroughly enjoyable, yet challenging course. Though I played it in the middle on winter it was still in a very condition. Well maintained with some challenging holes. Highly recommended.
Excellent public course
We were travelling back from the Open on the Saturday and no private course could accommodate us to play a round in the morning. Six Hills did and all I can say is 'What an excellent public course it is'. Views, greens, fairways and facilities first class. Better than most expensive private courses I've played over the years. Staff friendly and accommodated our needs. If I lived in the area I would join without a doubt. If you are in the area then play it, worth every penny, Thanks again Six Hills, I will defo be playing again at some point.
Six hills
Easy walking as flat. Found on oversll good condition. Women in shop very friendly. Has a range and putting green and buggies available. Fairly open and relatively forgiving course so enjoyable for the higher handicapper.
Worth a visit
As a beginner this has been one of my first 18 hole courses and would highly recommend a trip. I play with season golfers and it is challenging for them but with decent sized fairways it offers the newbie hope.
Long established pay and play
Must be the only course in the UK with an abattoir adjoining the 15th fairway. Am I sorry if the location of the slaughterhouse has had a detrimental effect on the golf course owner's business? No as he built the abattoir with an EU grant and then sold it!
