Good course
Very good course, greens were in a really nice condition, no hold ups and decent food.
Stunning
Can't speak highly enough of this course. It's ridiculously good value for the quality it offers and it is set in the most stunning surroundings. The grass was lush and fluffy, the greens were impeccable and the holes were set up to challenge you mentally whilst also being fairly forgiving for higher-handicappers too. You will need to be able to hit the ball straight here, but surely that's a given to any half-decent course! It's true that some of the bunkers are more cement than sand although hopefully the staff will see the reviews and sort this out in no time. Will be back time and time again.
Great course
Great course in good condition Will definitely return. The barmaid was rude and miserable Which took the gloss off a very nice round.
Course has gone downhill
Played here a few times last year and was really impressed with the conditions of the course. Played today and was totally disappointed. The fairways where covered all over in Daisy’s throughout the whole course. The tee areas are also really bare and we often had to tee off further back to find a decent area to tee off from without damaging our clubs. There was also at least two groups who we saw playing in hoodies and trainers this was seen by staff as this was in the pro shop. Overall I wouldn’t return to this club as for the green fee we paid there are much better courses locally I would rather give my money too.
Excellent course
Very hilly! in great condition and for the price an absolute bargain. Will play many times more.
Top notch but challenging
We are still in March and Surrey National is in excellent condition. If it suffered in last year's drought there are no signs of damage remaining. Drainage is excellent, the course is playing well and the greens are consistently good. This is not an easy course - fairways are quite narrow and many have tricky slopes; greens have many slopes, levels and undulations. But well worth a visit.
Bunkers ruined my sandwedge
This is a great course.
Its tricky, it’s probably one of the most challenging courses in the area.
I won’t play this course again until they have maintained the bunkers. In our 3 ball we inevitably visited the bunkers, as this course has bunkers everywhere. I took chunks out of my sandwedge because of the flint in them and my playing partners also damaged their clubs. Summing up, there wasn’t enough sand, they were full of stones and big pieces of flint were lurking in the shallow.
Good value course.
I’ve played Surrey National half a dozen times now. The course was in reasonable condition for middle of March. Unfortunately there were far too many unrepaired pitch marks on every green together with loads of divots on fairways, again unrepaired. Pace of play was ok. Two ball got round in just under 4 hours. Decent sandwich in the bar afterwards. £19 for the round via tee times.co.uk
Great value golf
Despite being the middle of February the course was in fair condition and the greens were running true. Interesting layout and some challenging holes. Would happily play here again perhaps in the summer..
An interesting and challenging course
Really enjoy the layout of this course, I have to be on top of my game to score well here, a few of the greens a bit wet which is standard for this time of year. The pace of play was a bit slow today, with players continuously bunching up, maybe a lot of people were venturing out for their 1st game of the year because it was mild
surrey national in the fog
Drech weather (low cloud/fog) made some holes challenging as just couldn't see.. otherwise apart from the condition of the bunkers everything was good.
Great value for money course.
Teed off at 12.45pm and finished just before lights out at 4.45pm. Pretty decent pace of play. Course was in good condition for mid January, although pretty much every green had numerous unrepaired pitch marks which was pretty frustrating. Other than that, 18 holes for £12 you just can’t go wrong. Shot a gross 80 with four birdies, so my best round for months.
Course in great condition given time of year. Greens and bunkers well looked after.
Review
Credit to the greenkeeping team, cultural practices up to date and very good, greens had just been sprayed (usually difficult at this time of year) and as a result greens disease free, short cut and running very true.
Always enjoy playing here a good test without being too difficult, interesting good layout and good presentation and facilities plus they serve Doombar !!
Note : an equipment wash down facility would be useful
Too slow
The pace of play is absolutely ridiculous we had to wait on every shot. Quite often there were 2 groups waiting on the tee at the same time. We did see a Marshall on the course and he did not do anything to speed the slow groups up. We left after 15 holes that had taken nearly 5 hours.
Such a pity as it is potentially a very good course.
Group in front had no concept of pace of play lost 2 holes to the group in frontof them by the 5th hole. No thought to allow a much quicker 4 ball play through
Nice course - some upkeep needed
Course has some very nice challenging holes and is good fun. Could do with some tlc in places eg bunkers rock solid and no hole signage or yardage marker posts on first nine holes. They also double booked our tee time but thankfully other group were relaxed about it.
Great condition given the dry weather
Enjoyable round with fairways and greens in fantastic condition given the weather. Probably should have got buggy as course is quite hilly etc.
Good value for money
