Very long, but interesting course!
On arrival, the course/club really didn't look like much. Finding the place was a pain and the car park was nearly full, and the clubhouse looked pretty small and dingy. Staff were friendly enough, and a full english for £7.50 can't be knocked! There was a practice green and 2 nets near the 1st tee, but the range was in between 2 holes in the middle of the course.
Course conditions were decent for this time of year, but the tee boxes were atrocious. This really let the course down as fairways were good and greens ran pretty true. I played off the white tees which was probably a mistake as it was EXTREMELY long (with one hole over 600 yards!), especially in winter, but I enjoyed the challenge. There was a good variety of holes, and I particularly enjoyed the short par 4 12th (possibly driveable in summer) and the downhill par 5 13th. There were a lot of dog-leg holes which spiced things up, and some holes had wide forgiving fairways. This was complimented by some slightly shorter, narrower par 4's which demanded accuracy off the tee.
I played as a 1-ball and most of the other players were extremely friendly and keen to let me play through, which is an appreciated rarity these days.
Overall, I enjoyed my round at West Berkshire but I wouldn't rush back. I'd probably return in summer, but it's not a great winter course for me. If you're a big hitter who likes to let loose, I would highly recommend giving it a try!
Awful place and staff
Upon arrival the first thing you see is the tired run down looking clubhouse.
Next door is the worlds most cluttered club shop and when you do a simple thing like walk into the bar to get a drink the first thing the barman does is look you up and down to check you’re adhering to their rules such as no golf shoes in the bar. I explained mine weren’t golf shoes and even if they were would he expect me to go bare foot if that was all I had, he replied ‘yes’
Never mind the carpet in there is from at least 1972
Will never go back
Pm golf
Nice course , lots of trees but normally you can get out !!! Bar was friendly and welcoming
West Berks Golf
The course was in excellent condition.
Fiarways good greens very good.
It does attract a lot of players which means it can get busy.
For some reason though we seem to come across 4 ball players that simply do not look back and allow quicker 2balls to play through here (has happened several times now) Maybe the staff need to remind them to not allow slow play/allow quicker players to play through.. Over 4 hours to get round for a 2 ball is way too long.
Would recommend this course highly, just hope its not too busy next time.
Lovely course,long track
2nd time playing here
Most holes are tree lined, good challenge for most levels of golfer, some long holes
Enjoyed playing here and will do so again
Bog
Should not have been open, if the pro shop had been open when I finished I would have asked for reimbursement of my tee credit, unfortunately this was shut just like the course should have been.
Standing water ankle deep all over the course.
Waste of time
West berks
Great course good condition well worth the green fee will play again soon
Great course nestled in the rolling hills of wes berks
First time playing here
Lovely course, greens were nice ,all of the course was in great condition, some holes give great views of the rolling hills of west berks ,not a house in sight, quite a challenge for a high handicapper which is good, can't wait to play it again, got it on the £20 for 18 golf now so phenomenal value, highly recommend⛳⛳
Solo round
I booked the round a few days prior on the golfnow app. Really easy and straightforward process. Confirmation sent immediately after.
I arrived early as traffic was lighter than I expected. The lovely young man in the pro shop explained that they were fairly quiet that day and that one the 2-ball who were warming up on the 1st tee had tee-ed off then I was able to start also.
The course itself is well maintained. Easily to navigate around the course with clear signage throughout to help visitors who haven't played the course before.
The front is alot longer the the back, including 3 par 5's.
You have to be accurate off the tee on most of the holes as there are tight tee lines throught the round. But this just adds to charm of the course itself.
The greens are well maintained all of which had good pace to them.
The only negative I would say for this course is that there was no half way house/hut so nowhere to get refreshments . The layout of the course meant that the 9th was at the far end of the course so you couldn't go via the. Clubhouse unlike on some others I've played.
All in all a really good course full of different challenges. Definitely returning in the future
Super golf
A tucked away in the countryside course with tree lined fairways to help straighten up your game.
Friendly pro shop and two decent nets to knock up before starting your round.
Super course and great value for money.
Hidden gem.
Having very little knowledge of the course before arriving, we were very pleasantly surprised! Having booked a last minute hit deal we had no idea what to expect but the journey into the beautiful countryside was a promising start. Once we got out onto the course we were met with a range of challenging holes and some fantastic views of the surrounding area. A little off the beaten track but well worth a visit if you find yourself in the area!
Great challenge for all golfers
This course is challenging for all abilities of golf while being great fun. We played as a 4 ball and it was great fun the course is well layed out and extremely well kept.
Can’t wait to come back in the summer in better conditions.
West berks golf course
Played after out own course closed due to flooding. Considering the weather we have had the past 2 weeks the course was ok and only a few areas which were roped off.
