Great round of golf
Considering the time of year the course was in great condition and the greens were really fast. The Green staff should be applauded. Really enjoyed my round.
Winter 4 ball
Thirsk is a good golf course with plenty of practice facilities, some challenging holes with large trees situated either in the fairway or blocking out a green.
Ground conditions when we played were frozen solid so good approach shots were bouncing up in the air off the greens like landing on concrete.
Great views
The course has some beautiful views over to the hills and valleys, some long unforgiving holes, yet difficult to loose a ball. Shame the kitchen was closed we couldn’t get any snacks, sandwiches etc. May be the times we are in. We were a twosome with a local four ball ahead who gave way straight away which was good of them, there was a few wet areas but nothing too bad and considering the weather we had recently, overall the course was in good condition, fast greens, well cut fairways and respectfull green keepers.
Ruined by staff.
The course itself is ok. Not a world class course but not awful. Although it does have really poor drainage so if it rains it’s wet for the rest of the year.
I’ve played here a few times and I’m always made to feel unwelcome. To staff are super snobby which is surprising as the course or club house don’t merit such an attitude. I would kind of understand if it was one of the top courses in Scotland with great history but it’s a run of the mill course in Yorkshire. No great features, no memorable holes just a bunch of stuck up wannabes
Nice but very wet course
Played today. Full 18 greens open but the course was very wet under foot, so much so I lost 4 balls on the fairway due to them plugging.
Played the course before and will be back again but very hard going due to the conditions.
Good
Great course brilliant staff
Excellent condition
I am a returning player to this coarse, after two weeks of rain this was the only club around that was open and playable, and was in fantastic condition as usual, few puddles here and there but nothing major, greens were fantastic! Was warned by the friendly pro shop staff that I was following 36 seniors in 4 balls and that it may be slow, and was given the option to play the back 9, however we opted to follow them, in a 2 ball, and they kept up the pace of play well, not slow at all! Enjoyed a meal and a pint of morretti in the bar, same quality friendly staff you would expect in there. Great welcoming club, great coarse, highly recommended!
Stunning February day to play!
The stunning day certainly made the round today! Blue skies, warm sun and hardly a breath of wind! Second time we had played the course so had a better awareness of layout. Course is a good challenge without being massively long to dishearten average players like us! Tree lined fairways means accuracy off the tee is needed on a lot of holes with a number of wider fairways that allowed us to have a go with the driver! Will be back again
Course Plays very well in mid winter!
This is my home course by choice! Great local location, plenty of comps for women, lovely views of the neighbouring hills and dales. Mixed golf set ups. Course has been open all winter, and is great all year round.
RMH HARROGATE REVIEW
Great soft greens so can aim at the flags which is great fairways very muddy and wet and not rained for several days best carry this time of year golf trolleys should be banned as the wheels clog up with mud and leaves which was a real pain cleaning them out after 2 or 3 holes and even worse getting home to clean everything but should think it’s great to play in summer so I would give it 7/10 for now as it would be unfair this time of year and probably go to 9/10 summer views look great bit misty but still great RMH Harrogate golf club member
