Pretty poor all around…
Course was in terrible conditions (not the fact that it was winter) but poor quality all around.
The club house was in shambles, pro shop an absolute mess (this isn’t even giving them a break for the construction that was going on), and the staff inside were incredibly snide and unhelpful.
Overall, for £40, you’re better off going to top golf next door.
PS, don’t let people drive buggies on rainy days when even the cart paths are basically all mud
Disappointing experience at Woolston manor
I have played at Woolston Manor a few times before and enjoyed it hence why we booked to play on Sunday. Woolston manor was hosting a reberance day tournament on Sunday morning with a shotgun start, however they didn’t block off the tee times for the rest of the morning. This lead to there being a delays to tee off and very very slow pace of play, where we was having to wait 5/10 mins after every shot. We teed off at 10:37 and by 2.30 we had only played 12 holes. We decided to stop there as it became clear we hasn’t going to finish the round due to how slow play was. Very poor from the Woolston manor tournament organisers and moderators, and clearly shows the club being extremely greedy. Especially when being charged £40
wonderful club and course
will highly recommend someone who is a decent striker of the ball.it is definitely not suitable for beginners.
Some holes the tee off are challenging and need to go across water and wasreland.
Would highly recommend to experience golfer.
Definitely will visited the club again in the near future
Great condition, tricky at times
Course was in great condition considering the rain fall. Was a great challenge as there are a fair few traps and ponds. Pace was great felt like we were on our own.
The Bunkers are nit beaches
The course us in the best condition I've seen for a while. My only gripe are the bunkers. I can see some work is been carried out but overall the bunkers are not good
Challenging course
Course in great condition, also had sand delivered for the bunkers (not filled in as of yet) was a great day
Bunkers under repair
I've played this course a couple of times now and it's got a great layout and some challenging holes but have enjoyed expect the last couple of times. The Sumner I know has been late coming and when I played last a couple of thr bunkers where more like lakes. This time many are u der repair but this was not reflected in price of any notices on the course to confirm if they where in play but mist still had rakes in. These was a number with drained ducts being laid. The course was particularly slow as well with a few times having to wait nearly 5 mins to tee off. In this current condition not worth £40. Timining for this level of repair is questionable and maybe cost reduction or at least notifying people when booking or on arrival.
Tatty old course in need of some TLC
This course used to be so much better in its day. Now it’s just tired and run down and in desperate need of some TLC. The set up of the course is truly excellent and it has some real potential to become a gem of a course if only some serious money could be invested in it to take it to that next level. The pace of play was pitiful when we played and seriously 5 hours for a round as a three ball is actually disgraceful! The greens are pretty slick so that’s a positive but the fairways lack irrigation and colour and in some places were rock hard! Also could do with some proper manicuring of fairways and rough areas. Bunkers were the real sour point though and really spoilt the whole experience, considering there are so many of them on this course. Every single bunker was GUR yet there was literally not a single sign to say so anywhere, and we weren’t even warned about this at any point of booking or upon arrival in the pro shop prior to play. To be honest I won’t be coming back here again in a hurry even at the price we paid which was relatively cheap and this is solely down to the course not being playable around any areas approaching the greens. Having to drop our ball out of every bunker as a free drop just didn’t feel like a real game of golf at all and our scores were therefore not a true reflection of the actual game. Also the pace of play was just infuriating, not only were our tee times delayed by about 25 minutes, don’t ask why! Perhaps some double booking going on there….but the fourball we had in front of us had to be the slowest and most annoying fourball you could ever encounter on a golf course. I’d say pay that extra tenner and go somewhere that is actually in decent condition rather than waste 5 hours of your life trudging through this pigsty of a course, there’s plenty of better deals out there to be honest.
Under Maintenance
The pro shop and bar staff were very friendly. But there was no word either on the website or when I rang to book a tee time that the course is in the midst of a revamp. The bunkers were completely torn up and unplayable. Some of the fairways had clumps of grass laying about, as they are not cutting it frequently enough. Greens felt like a wet sponge, as they were apparently getting watered between groups.
It has the makings of a beautiful course. The guys I played with that had been there before said as much. But unfortunately it was in terrible shape when I got there.
Make sure to inquire about the state of the course before booking anything.
Lovely course
Lovely local course, only complain is overbooked very slow
Empty course. Decent challenge
Played here once before. Got a good deal on GN for £18. England were playing football so there were 4 groups on the whole course. A fair bit of standing water in the bunkers but it showed to be a good course as despite the enormous amount of rain over previous days, the fairways and greens were in good condition. Some greens were soft underfoot but the pace and roll was normal and unaffected.
It was windy so punished long hanging shots and there are more water hazards that usual so gives plenty of challenge and thought for laying up. I probably spent more money on lost balls that green fees.
The car park is knackered so it feels like you are in a monster truck going over obstacles with the amount you get bounced about.
Lovely
The course was good, a lot of traps so a few balls were lost. Staff were very friendly. All in all a lovely day out.
Challenging course in nice surrounding
We played the course in dry condition. It's a fun but difficult course with lots of water hazards and bunkers. The one thing I didn't like where the green side bunkers - for me there is not enough sand in the bunkers and the surface is too compact/hard.
Most other criteria were good - not great not bad. Our tee time was 28 pounds each which made it great value for money.
