Woolston Manor Golf & Country Club

Come on Woolston, this could be a really decent course but get some proper sand in the bunkers. Worst sand I’ve seen in Essex. There’s rocks about 3” x 2”. the rest is between sharp sand and ballast.

This is not exaggerating either……

Very nice course, a bit challenging as there are plenty of Bunkers and Water hazards but it makes it really nice!

Second time I’ve played this course. It has some interesting holes and is a good challenge, however it could do with a bit of TLC. The greens are very bumpy and slow and the many many bunkers could do with a freshen up (I.e put a bit of sand in them). The entrance to the club itself is quite grand and considering they call themselves a country club, they could really do with sprucing the place up a little throughout.

This is a nice course layout with friendly staff. My only issue with it is there are about 100 bunkers with very little sand in making things pretty difficult. Sand is very compact and almost every green is guarded by bunkers. If they fix the quality of the bunkers then this course would be a lot more enjoyable.

This course had it all, bunkers, water and trees! Great fun, great course condition, great layout. 2nd time playing here, can't wait to go back for the third!

There is plenty of water and LOTS of bunkers - I genuinely don't think I've ever played anywhere with so many. I probably got more bunker practice than ever!

My only small criticism would be that there was no course guide available.

On a course with numerous holes where the flag is not visible from the tee this made for extra difficulty.

It also meant that it was hard to get a feel for the overall layout of the course, and it wasn’t always obvious where the next tee was.

However, all that being said, I had a thoroughly enjoyable round and I will definitely return at the earliest opportunity.

Played midweek. Course has dried up well. Winter tees have gone and you can get a golf trolley around with ease. Played here a few times and the course is always in good condition. Greens are starting to speed up now as well. Will definitely be back.

Great course with some very well designed holes...back 9 has some very challenging greens with ideally placed hazards..would definitely recommend if you like to play relatively flat but challenging courses...

Course looks very tired and wet under foot but overall good condition

Club house and patio very tired and needs some work wouldn’t want to eat there also no cushion for patio furniture

Me and My mate took up a round on Sunday. Course conditions were pretty decent for the time of the year, a little boogy in some places but every hole had a buggy path to follow to try keep course in good condition.. Definitely wouldn't slate it for this as I chose to play a week after the bad weather we have had. The greens were awesome in fairness, pretty fast as well. Water on 12 holes with the 13th being my favourite out of all. We will be returning in the Summer to see just how much better this course could be in dry conditions. Highly recommended

Pace of play was ridiculously slow. 4ball after 4ball. Gapping between the tee times is nowhere near long enough. 5.5 hours to go round!!!

Need a starter and Marshall's to keep things moving. Lengthen tee times too.

I spoke to members there who said it's only getting worse over time.

Course condition was good.

Layout good too.

Still quite muddy but playable. Very very long in the winter. Greens okay. Bunkers difficult. Too many Canada geese spoiling the course.! Bar not open.

Reasonable conditions for this time of the year. Muddy in places for sure but manageable. Pace of play on a Friday mid-day was great. Two practice nets and a putting green ahead of tee 1. Didn't see a driving range.

Had a great round with 2 friends in mid January, the course was in great condition given the weather at this time of year and the layout and hole variety was superb.

Slow round due to a number of 3 & 4 balls on the course but nothing too surprising for a Sunday morning.

Will definitely be coming back to play again and can’t wait to see it during the summer

Interesting course, a lot of guarded greens either with bunkers or water. A couple drive-able par 4’s that asked you to take risks…

Just very slow pace, in traffic from first tee as if we were behind a comp. Other than that very enjoyable and good value
