Awesome, beautiful course
I try to play this course as often as possible. Even though the front nine was under repair i loved play this course
Excellent Course
Have played several times and feel that it is always a great value. I always enjoy it, even when I play bad.
Very enjoyable course and well worth the cost.
Very enjoyable course to play. Well worth the cost.
Great value
Course was in good condition but unfortunately play was a little slow
They need a Marshall out on the course.
They should more strict about dress code. I was paired with a guy wearing a denim shorts.
Long and forgiving with great greens.
Never been on the Marine base and found the drive interesting. A little hard to find though. Played on a weekday afternoon and felt like a country club with so few golfers. A mature course that I would definitely like to play again. Green were just perfect for me as I like some character but not impossible. Could have used a little moisture as it was hard to keep the balls on the green. Double check your map as our google search was incorrect.
Pleasantly Surprised
Read a lot of good things about this track so was hoping that my first time here would live up to expectation. I was not disappointed. This is not the most difficult course you'll play. There are no water hazards on the course, not many bunkers, and fairways are wide and most are straight or shallow dog legs. There are a lot of mature eucalyptus trees around the course, but you have to hit a pretty bad shot for them to come into play. For as easy and generous as the fairways are here, the greens are very fast and sometimes tricky to read. Overall, the course is in good condition and better than some costing twice as much. I also like the fact that the course sits in a quiet canyon with no homes to be found anywhere. This is also a very walkable course if you want to get out of the cart. This is a really fun, inexpensive course and you'd be hard pressed to find a better value for your dollar.
Love this course...
This is a long course, but with plenty of room for error. You can play your driver off every tee not a par 3. Nestled in the hills of Camp pendleton, but definitely still walkable. There are no homes built along this course; really gives the feel of getting away. Better kept fairways than most mid-rate courses I've played lately. Be sue to bring proof of your Golf Now reservation; they don't have Internet in the pro shop (Marines use rifles not keyboards!)
muni course conditions, interesting layout
I got a great price so, for me, the course was well worth the fee.
I went out at twilight so course was empty for the front nine. Had to wait on every hole on the back.
Interesting layout with no two holes looking alike. Scruffy fairways but nice greens that rolled true.
A Player's Course
I really enjoyed my round at MMGC. This course is very well designed. It is tree lined with some elevation changes. Reminds me a bit of SDCC.A solid player's course, which puts premium on accuracy off the tee. Fairways are not narrow, however you have rough and trees to contend with if you miss the fairway. Greens were fast and smooth. Pace of play was 4 hours on a Friday. The course was in good shape. Practice facility was nice with grass range, short game area, and putting green. If you are in the area, this is a really good one. I would give 4.5 stars if possible.
1st time
Right now this course in in GREAT condition. Other than Cross Creek in DeLuz - this place is a great deal for the money. Other local courses fail big time in condition and maintenence especially if you can appreciate perfect rolling greens. I have lived in socal my whole life and never played here till yesterday. Don't miss an opportunity to play here - course is in great shape, reasonably long, and had some tough pin placements with quick rolling perfect greens.
A very unique course with some interesting challenges
It's a great course - some longer holes and some fairly unique holes. And it's always nice to be playing and see some Bell Boeing V22 Ospreys hovering over the ridge.
It's a very unique course and I would recommend people to have play it.
Very well maintained course.
There were eight in our group who travel in from the Sacramento. CA area for five days of golf in Oceanside and surrounding areas. We truly enjoyed Marine Memorial GC. Only downside was that our round took over five hours to play because of slow play. At times, three foursomes on the same hole in the back nine. We never did see any marshals on the course but nevertheless, its a must play and very reasonable rates.
Fairways and greens in great shape.
Had a wonderful day on this course. It's nice to play off decent lies in the fairway and this course had lots of them. Greens rolled nice. I can't say anything bad about Marine Memorial.
Like a muni course but not crowded. Course is well maintained and in a nice setting with mature trees and no houses on the course. On the military bas
The course is on a marine corp base. It has no homes on the course and it has mature oak trees. The staff is accomodating and there are no crowds to deal with. The food and beverage prices are decent and are good as well. Many foks are not aware of this course for public play.
quiiet with bumpy greens
great location with no houses or traffic..... greens are average to below average.... bumpy and inconsistent.
Great facility at a great price.
So, my understanding is that until a year or two ago, this course was military only. Let me say, I'm very happy that it's now open to us civilians who want to go play there.
Classic layout in one of the valleys of the rolling hills of Camp Pendleton. For $35 weekends (walking - it's $50 to ride) it's a bargain. The course is all by itself on the base - one road in and out, not a house to be seen. Nothing but you, the course and the birds. Pace of play was terrific, especially for a 10:00am tee time on a Sunday. Just under 4 hours for the round. The greens were partially aerated, but that's fine - it's a normal springtime thing and they were getting bumpy in spots, so the aeration was needed. Fairways were in good shape, bunkers were very consistent and well placed and the rough, while not always consistent, was, in places, a fair length to penalize you for missing the fairway. Mature trees line the course, but not so many that you're blocked out of a shot on every miss.
Beverages (read: Beer Cart) were CHEAP! (Cheap for a golf course in any case.) Each round of a Miller Lite for my buddy and a Corona for me was only $7. For San Diego, that's a downright bargain. The staff everywhere was terrific and the food from Mulligan's (We had lunch at the Eagle's Landing after the round) was good as well.
Overall, I really liked the course and will definitely be back. Granted, it's a 45 minute drive from my house in Point Loma, but I won't let that stop me from playing here more often.
Course is in great shape.
We've played the course a great number of times over the years. It''s in the best shape we've ever seen it. Fairways were all green and cut short for great play.
Better than ever.
I hadn't played here in over 5 years and was surprised at the small things that made a big difference.
The fairways and primary rough have been greatly improved. The greens seemed shaggy but rolled really fast; that took some getting used to. We had two greens where the pin wasn't placed properly, on slopes but the rest were placed fairly.
I was very pleased to see the improvements; I guess some of the war budget trickled down to Morale Welfare and Recreation at home.
Semper Fi
Course in very shape, staff very friendly only took 2 hrs and 45 mins
