Long in the wind
Course was in good condition, bunkers a bit thin, greens fast and bumpy (not a good combo), but very playable. Even from the white tees, especially with the wind gusts we were getting, the course played quite long.
4/17
Windy but nice day out on base. For being in drought, the course was in nice condition and very green. Pretty straight forward front 9, slightly more variety back 9, good length on par 3s. Excellent pace of play.
Good Course
Glad we played it. Its out of the way enough that it wasn't crowded. The pace of play was good until about the 14th. We then ran in to a couple of guys that I think one was giving lessons. They would do a lot of talking and several practice swings and then hit an extra ball or two if the first one wasn't a good one. Other than that it was a good day. Then again is there a bad day on a golf course? Just some better than others.
Great course- Great conditions- Great Pace
From the blues it can be challenging on some holes, but the course feels open within the canyons it's set in, not hitting the fairway can put you into some bad lies. The course it's self is always in excellent condition, the pace of play through out the course always seems to be great especially being in Southern California and even on weekends. If your playing fast people will let you play through. The greens and fairways are green and not filled with ball marks and divots, the greens roll very well compared to a lot of courses I have played in the area.
Nice and long
The course was in good condition from the fairways to the greens and the pace of play was excellent. I was paired up with another player and we finished in 3 hours. A suggestion would be that once we get out of this drought to add some lakes to the course. The only negative was Ryan in the pro shop. He lectured me about why I could not get a cart until close to my tee time because they didn't want me to try to tee off earlier than my tee time. This was odd because I did not ask for an explanation and nor was I interested in hearing one and I wasn't interested in teeing off early because I wanted to warm up. Also, the course was wide open, so it was nonsense anyways. It made no difference what time I teed off that day because there was no one there. He did say however that if i would buy some range balls then he would honor me with a cart early. I told him yippee, but he didn't seem to understand that I was being sarcastic. That being said I enjoyed playing the course and will be back again. Ryan, loosen up! There are times to be a stickler and times not to be. You just haven't learned the difference yet.
a great day out
the four of us played at our own speed and the weather was warm...course in great shape and it was challenging...
Great Course
Fun course to play. The greens and fairways were in great shape. Scenic if you like courses away from houses and highways (which I do).
Had a good time
We saw a great deal on GolfNow so decided to make our way out to this course. My 9-year-old son and I had a great time. There was hardly anyone on the course during the afternoon so the pace was great. We ran into a little bit of wind and haze/fog that made it play more difficult. The guy in the pro shop wasn't helpful and didn't seem to want to spend another second with us. We were hoping to get some food there but the snack shop near the range was closed the whole time and the grill was closed by the time we finished nine. We were extremely hungry by the end of our round. The lady at the bar got us a soda and was extremely friendly and helpful. The course is set down in a valley and mostly flat but there is a little elevation change to it. The course was a little far from where we were staying but worth the drive.
Hidden gem
Loved this secluded gem on the grounds of Camp Pendleton. Nice practice facilities. Greens were faster than they looked. Quiet, valley type course surrounded by big hills. Relaxing.
Entire Staff is Amazing. Friendly. Courteous. Caring.
It's obvious this staff either all had recent customer service training or they are the best ambassadors of the game ever. Never expected such friendliness at a military course. They go out of their way to make your day better. Good prices on excellent food and beverages as well.
Quality Round
Driving range, large putting green, and chipping area. Two of us played a full 18 holes in about 3 hours. Course has an area or two that is under maintenance, but did not get in the way of our play. I would recommend this course for both novice and skilled players.
Marine
This course is very green , the fairways and greens are fantastic. The staff was very friendly at the desk and at the food counter.
Hidden Gem
As a Marine (med retired) I hadn't been back to the base in 23 years. My USMC retired friend invited me to play and what a experience. The course has history, But that's what makes it a hidden gem. It's open, mature, beautiful. I enjoyed it so much I brought my son and brother in law back and played 2 days in a row. The staff was outstanding as you might expect from a Marine base. Mulligan's (rest/lounge) was outstanding as well.
If you are looking for an a great day of golf with a lot if history and impeccable service give this one a try. I will be back. Semper Fi!!!!
super nice course
Speed of play was great. Conditions were great. Greens a little slower than normal.
Great Value!
Since the course was prepared for the All Military Golf Championships a few years ago, the condition of the course has been fantastic. The pro shop is very well stocked, the restaurant (Mulligan's) is very good, the staff are all very professional and accommodating, and the course condition is challenging. I have walked the course in 3 hours and 45 minutes, on a weekend. Normal pace of play on weekends is 4 hours. The value for military and veterans is second to none. Open to civilian guests and you can't beat the cost!
I offer my highest recommendation.
Lots of fun on a big course
Had a blast on my day of, playing on this big course. I shall be returning to play again. No complaints.
in the middle of camp pendelton
so quiet and no houses to look at.
greens punched 3 wks ago still pretty slow
fairways in good shape overall
this is a sleeper
The course has a lot of wind.
Most 9f the holes have a three club wind in your face. Cannot wait to go back.
