Nice course with friendly staff! Beautiful location amongst the hills of Camp Pentleton.
I had not been to Marine Memorial in several years, and I was pleased to find the clubhouse, restaurant and bar area newly renovated.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and it was a pleasure to play a round of golf with some of our Marines, active and retired!
Ordinary tract. Nothing special.
I was disappointed with the overall condition of the course. The tees are not groomed and the greens are not uniform in texture.
Good, all-around golf course.
Good golf experience. I would rate condition better than "maintained", but not "pristine". Decent fairways and very good tees and greens.
Course difficulty I would also rate halfway between "moderate" and "challenging". Greens tricky, but puttable and fun!
Very good value.
Course damaged by frost. Plays in a valley. Wet from rain. Non-descript holes.
Course is out of the way. Better and more accessible courses nearby. Course was damaged by frost. Played long and wet in the rain. Non-descript holes. Not worth the drive.
Decent track - good value
Played on a breezy, crisp Sunday afternoon and didn't have high expectations, but the price was right. While it's mostly flat and wide open as far as the fairways, the distance - at 6,865 yards from the back - really adds to the challenge. The front 9 is fairly tame with very little elevation change, while the back 9 offers a number of elevated tee boxes and nice views. The par 3s were memorable and the hole layouts were distinct, despite some of the holes running parallel to one another.
Overall, it matches the feel of a course built in the 40s with the tree-lined fairways and multiple bunkers around almost every green. Not a lot of trouble, though, as far as OB or water. Worth the drive for the right deal.
Fairways - decent, and reasonably dry considering the recent rain.
Greens - quite nice and seemed to roll true, very receptive.
Rough - Fairly consistent, but full of critter mounds beyond the first cut.
Cart paths - could use some repair as the concrete was crumbling in many spots.
Pace of Play - not bad considering the number of players walking.
Practice area - better than average
Similar courses (in my opinion) - San Clemente Muni, Oceanside GC, Costa Mesa (and definitely a step above Shorecliffs and San Luis Rey Downs).
Great value but a little rough
The course was suffering the same problems as most courses with bermuda grass this time of year. The greens were a little thin but puttable. Nice layout and friendly staff.
This course is in great shape
From the first tee to the last hole this course will challenge you with bunker shots, tree lined fairways and challenging stance postions. The course is in great condition and the greens are moderate to fast. The staff was very friendly and helpful and accomidated us when our twosome turned into a threesome at the last minute, The course is very long and some of the par fours feel like fives. If you want to play a beautiful challenging course this is one that I would chose for the value.
Beautiful challenging layout
Marine Memorial at Camp Pendleton has been upgraded in the past couple of years. The greens are fast and challenging, fairways mostly grass. For January the conditions were well above average for the Oceanside area. No balls lost and score better than my home course. Definitely worth a day of golf.
Fantastic course
Course was very well maintained. Staff was very friendly.
Good Golf course, not hard, maintained nice.
The course very nice condition, greens and fairways in great shape. not to difficult Good course for the average player.
Love this course.
Fun, great course off the beaten path. Don't want to praise it to high for fear of an influx of new players! Wide open and easy to play...take my word for it.
Nice outing
Heck of a deal for under $20. First time I have played there. Greens were slow but nice. Lot's of elevated tee boxes. Not much trouble (lost only 2 balls). Long from the whites. Very pretty. and quiet. Would play there again.
Good open course
Course was forgiving off the tee and bunker placement around the pin kept things interesting on approach, but overall I felt the course was very forgiving which made for a relaxing round. The course has a great layout with a good mix of elevation and was in great shape.
Nice course....wind can make it tricky
..nice having the ocean breezes. It is a tricky course.. .fairly long. ..a very nice practice area
The course is well maintained
I like the long par 4's. The greens are difficult but conquerable. The trees always come into play.
Moderately challenging with wide open fairways but tight approach conditions
This is a good course with wide open fairways but tight approach conditions to the green. It's a moderately challenging course that is fun to play. It is definitely a good buy for the money.
this course has good features.
This course is clean and average with a traditional flavor!
Fairly well maintained, greens had some spots but overall good condition, good layout.
Played a couple of times during weekdays, and there are very few people there. No waiting on tee boxes. Good layout and fairly good conditions on fairways and greens. The first few holes seem pretty easy, but winds blowing from the coast makes the holes playing east to west a lot longer than acctual yardage. Overall pretty challenging and absolutely good bang for your buck. Facilities are good too. Will play again.
Not bad for twilight price
If it wasn't for their twilight prices, I wouldn't play it.
Nice classic course. Just airified the greens a bit slow.
Nice classic layout with mature trees. Old classic style course with what you see is what you get type not tricked up at all. Some long holes back into the wind. Great driving range with real grass to hit off. Great deal on range balls only $2.00.
