Greens are great
If you think your a good putter try these greens. The day we played you were dead meat if you were above the hole. Thanks to the staff and the marines for a good tract.
Good scenery
Nice challenging course.. Long fairways some are are narrow. But if you're long and straight hitter would not be a problem..Nice greens..
1st time
Great course, Greens, fairways, and tees all in great shape, with the exception that I don't understand why courses in San Diego will not do anything about the ground squirrels. They are destroying this and other great courses.
Good condition. Nice and green
We had a really enjoyable round. Fast greens. The course is in really good shape and we would like to play it again.
Hidden gen
Excellent value for the money. Great practice facility coupled with a fun, fair course. Greens, tee boxes, and fairways in fine shape. Hard to beat value.
Good deal
The course was in good shape. Driving range was closed when I arrived but other than that it was a good round. Staff was friendly. History of the course was interesting.
Worth the drive!
Nice course on Camp Pendeleton. Great staff and excellent bargains in the clubhouse, We'll be back!
Hidden Gem
This course is in a very good shape. Tees were in excellent shape. Fairways are also in good shape. Pace of Play was also nice - no waiting at all. The only improvement needed is that greens are slow and needs to be shaved... (maybe due to aerification).
1st time here
I am a avid golfer who tries to get a round in at least once a week, always looking to play new courses. I've heard of this course from a buddy and ended playing this week. It's a nice golf course with nice elevated tee boxes and is also in really good condition especially being in a water drought opposed to other courses near by. Challenging course for sure, tough to read greens and long as heck holes. I defintly recommend it to all golfers
Good place to get your confidence flowing ....
After the initial anxiety getting through the Armed security gates the rest of the day was great !
Really nice condition course, good lay out. Maybe a little open, but a nice change to be able to get on the excellent condition tees and feel some confidence with the driver without the worry of losing balls. You can still find trouble don't get me wrong, but at least you have a chance to rescue an errant drive. Good condition fairways, pretty green and lush for the middle of summer and really nice flat greens, albeit a little slow if being picky. Some long Par 3's keep it interesting and also the par 5's are fairly long for birdies good drives are essential. Definitely a course i would recommend playing, very friendly people and a chance to shoot low if u keep the ball straight.
Will be back for sure
Best kept secret
The course setup is straightforward and old school muni, which is great. The greens are diabolical though. Much faster and sloped than they appear. They appear soft because the grass is lush, but they are concrete under the surface. There is more than meets the eye with this sleepy looking layout.
One issue to address, the ground squirrel regiment. There are as many squirrels on Memorial as there are Marines at Pendelton. Holes everywhere. They must not be to the likings of the resident hawks. These varmints need to be thinned out a great deal as they are tearing up the course.
superior value
The course is in great shape, very lush fairways, healthy rough, and good greens. And playing with active duty marines is always a bonus.
good condition in dry year
Learned of tournament after arriving at course. Found
pace of play a little slow following right behind tournament group, but understand why. Course in great shape compared to dry conditions found elsewhere.
Difficult access
I like the course, but I was stopped at the entry to the base and had to stand for fifteen minutes facing a guy holding an automatic weapon four feet away, while my car was searched and they did a background check on me. That was very unpleasant to say the least. I am never going back.
Great Value
This is a real bargain and a hidden gem. There was hardly anyone on the course late afternoon on a Saturday. A nice variety of holes framed by beautiful mature trees and gently rolling hills made the afternoon a delight. I would like to come back and play in the morning just after the greens have been cut for a real sense of how nice the course can be. The kikuyu fairways make for great lies but the kikuyu rough can be challenging.. The pro shop was well stocked and even the cart attendant was friendly and encouraged me to come back.
Clean Golf Course enviornment
The course is very well kept up. In the past the fairway was strewn with loose leaves and other debris. Now it was clean with very little debris on the fairways. The rough used to be with overgrown long grass making it difficult to find a ball hit into the rough. Now cut right right where it's easier to find a missing ball.
Easy on the eyes
The course was in great shape and challenging for all.
Nice course
Front and back are completely different, but nice overall course. Pace wasn't too bad considering Father's Day afternoon. Fairways and greens in pretty good shape considering CA drought. The rough surprisingly chokes your club more than you would think.
Too many ground squirrels
The course was in very good condition, both fairways and greens. Plenty of elevation change with interesting and challenging holes. But too many ground squirrels. They were everywhere.
Was in excellent shape!
As we pulled up to the course you could see how well conditioned it was, especially since most other courses here in SoCal are dealing with drought issues. Fairways were great, greens were deceptively fast, and pretty difficult to read.
The course itself is mostly open (only lost one ball and still not sure how that happened) but the bunkers, greens, and wind, make up for that. It seems like almost every hole from 6 on is into the wind!
Lots of fun.
