About
Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

Needs work, fair overall.
Need better control of player tee times. I experienced another player tee’ing off less than 1 minute after me. Was not a pleasant experience as I felt the other player was rushing me. Many of the tee boxes were bare and overly filled with sand.
Seeding Greens!
Course is seeding greens not playable for now, heads up.
Cute par 3
Nice little 18 hole par three course with a few challenging holes
Not what I expected in a bad way
First time playing and the course is essentially a pitch and putt with only a few interesting holes. Essentially flat with smallest greens, only worth the $15 I paid to practice my short game with 2 mid Iron he's on the back 9. Starter was pleasant and so were the other golfers.
Good beginner course
This is an excellent beginner course. Fairways did not have much of any grass. Great place for young kids or any new golfer to go and get there first taste of golf.
Fun little 3-par
Wasn't so sure when we arrived, but had a great time. Staff was super friendly. Leave you driver in the car - the holes are short but it was a great way to work on my chipping game. This would be a great place to teach a kid to golf.
Inaugural ranch
New of it for a long time. Brought my son beginner. Great time.
Discrimination
My boyfriend and his friends went to play today and the manager did not allow them to have beer but allowed the White group in the back of them to continue having beer with them . He was pressuring his group to hurry while not doing that with the rest of the groups he gave them extra golf clubs so they could “speed it up”. This should be a fun experience especially for beginners not one where you are rushed and the manager is being discriminatory as he was not doing that to the groups that had white people around . Do better for poc.
Good condition- course going in right direction !
Management stepped up efforts improving course conditions. Tee box are in good condition, you can hit right off the grass. Greens are in amazing shape for executive golf course! Driving range play is off the grass, wow! So glad to see management maintaining golf course, it really shows. This golf course looks to be heading in the right direction. Looking forward to play again and work on that short-game.
Great course for kids and beginners
Please don't read this as negative. Course is set up for kids and beginners, kind of a "bunny slope" for golfers. Wide open with very few obstacles, it is a great place to keep the attention of a little one and not frustrate a beginner. I was there on a weekend and it was busy with lots of families having a great time.
I won't go back on a weekend, but during the week to work the short game this is going to be in the rotation. For the price it's super.
