About

Holes 18
Type Public

Length 6858 yards
Slope 126
Rating 72.5

El Prado Golf Course in Chino offers two 18-hole courses, Chino creek and Butterfield Stage. Chino Creek is the longer of the two at 6,858 yards from the back tees. It is also considered more challenging but both are player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. As its name would imply, the Chino Creek runs along the entire length of the golf course. You find water in several different forms throughout the course including lakes and meandering streams. The layout is spread across rolling terrain with elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Several of the holes begin from elevated tees and it's likely you'll face more than one uphill battle. Trees and bunkers also come into play but the fairways are wide and forgiving. It's not an overly difficult golf course but beginners can also try the shorter and less challenging Butterfield Stage Course.

Course Conditions

This was my first time playing El Prado Golf Course - Chino Creek Course and I gotta say, the conditions were horrible. Perhaps the worst golf course ever played. The fairways looked like the ruff and the greens looked like the fairways so imagine how the actual ruff was. The ruff was at least a foot and a half high so basically if you hit it in there, consider your ball gone, you'll never find it. I play every week at different locations because I like to challenge my 10 handicap game. The way I see it, you get what you payed for and for $35 it wasn't worth it still. It came out more expensive losing all those golf balls just pushing it a little right or left into the ruff. Never in my 15 years of playing golf have I seen a course in these horrible conditions.

You’re doing great!

Under the circumstances the course looked fine. The greens were slow but that’s just because they needed cut and rolled. Again, we’re lucky to even be playing. I know your doing the best you can especially since you’’ve only been open 4-5 days. Keep up the good work!!!

Chino Creek pleasant surprise

Course has some good challenges, greens were well maintained. Water on multiple holes rough made you play some interesting shots.

Still wish golfers would take time to fix the green after their shots. Its a simple courtesy and only takes a few seconds. (sorry pet peeve of mine)

Staff is great food great and good prices.

Good value for the money.

We were able to tee off close to a half hour before our 7:30am time. That worked out great for us, and we appreciated it.

The course layout is nice, nothing too tricky. The fairways were ok, shaggy in spots. The greens had not been mowed, and were very bumpy. There is zero break on these greens. It would take a 20% side slope to get the ball to move the way your eye sees it.

The front 9 was played in great weather conditions. The back 9 started off with strong winds and would gust to 30mph.

We would play here again, just because of the price and pace of play.

"Welcome!"

This course was a ways away from me so I decided I'd get there early to practice and try to remember something I only played once or twice before. Of course, being a GolfNow member, Mr. Congeniality behind the counter informed me that I could not tee off earlier than my given tee time but I did not realize they would not give out the cart early so I lugged my clubs across the vast parking lot not knowing where I was going and huffed it up to the putting green. Nice. I was later paired up with a father/daughter team and a young "stick" who shot very well. Again this course doesn't appear to have signs which lead you to the next hole and on the back nine had I not played it with someone who's been here before I would have missed three or four holes completely!

Chino is much narrower than Butterfield but seemed to be in pretty good shape, (greens & fairways)but the bunkers lacking some sand (not bad). All in all a pretty good course and a pretty nice round as a day of golf is always better than a day of work any day!
