Desert Dunes Golf Course
About
Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Its OK
Nice challenging layout. Some interesting holes. We enjoyed the back 9 better. Course conditions aren’t great, the course could use some love. If you set your expectations appropriately, you will enjoy the round.
Play early morning
Greens were bumpy with patchy grass cover.
Cart broke down on second hole and we had to return to clubhouse to get a replacement.
Good layout and can can be very difficult in the afternoons with strong winds.
we'll be back
green conditions just fair, bunkuers brutally firm but otherwise a fun cause to play
NOT your typical Palm Sorings golf experience
If you are a mid handicapper or higher with an inflated ego this probably isn’t the course for you. The fairways aren’t lush, the greens are pretty fast but bumpy ( but the ball seems to run true). It’s a REAL challenge of your shot making and course management skills.
If you are the type that would travel to Scotland / Ireland to play in harsh weather just to get the experience of playing a tough course with fascinating design elements you will get a kick out of Desert Dunes. Be warned you will shoot a score here higher than any other touristy local course .
If your are fed up with fairways lined with backyard swimming pools and vacation villas you will appreciate the raw, pure natural setting of DD.
NOT your typical Palm Springs golf experience
Every winter I play 5 to 7 of the mid priced green fee type courses in the Palm Springs area.I find Desert Dunes to be a refreshing change compared to all the others. It gets tiresome playing courses with every fairway lined with backyards of villas, condos, and 6 foot swimming pools. if you grew up in a rura,l rustic, under, trees part of North America, and have cherished memories golfing on a public course with lots of hills, and challenges, created by mother nature, not some architect with a ton of money and some earthmoving equipment. This course might be for you. The fairways will definitely not be as lush and well manicured as the other courses you play in the valley, the greens here are unbelievably thin and bumpy. But hey, they played a U.S. Open on bad greens once or twice, didn’t they. ?
The course will probably be windy, but I am told people pay thousands of dollars to get over to Scotland and Ireland to play under those circumstances. The design and layout is remarkable in my opinion. It is definitely not a course for a casual golfer with too much ego and no appreciation what a true coffin challenge can be.
Should try somewhere else
The course is in okay shape though the some of the greens are in very poor shape. On one par three they have had a little fence along the water hazard to keep your ball from falling into the water because the whole green slopes that way and any chip rolls off. The pace of play was terrible and the marshal did nothing to correct it.16 holes of standing around. Over 5 hour round.
Most greens in poor shape, very bumpy.
Played on very windy day and course is in a generally windy spot hence all windmills to the west. Greens in very poor shape so played two put rule.
It is what it is.
It was a windy day so play was made more difficult.
The course is in mediocre condition. It looks like the greens will be recovered in a few weeks. Not much attention the rough. Paid 59$ so it was a reasonable value.
Someone turned off the wind farm
My wife and I. are in the 65 plus range and played appropriate tees. Have not played since October so the extremely windy day (20 mph with huge gusts) made for a tough game. The course was in poor to fair condition, the greens weren't filled in but they putted true, had good speed and were tough in the wind. The bunkers were very firm and if you are not used to this type don't go in them. The course was hilly but other than that it wasn't memorable since I can't recall hardly any holes. They were letting out twosomes and we were a paired up foursome so we probably held up others. The fairways are very firm therefore it you don't hit it straight you are going to lose balls in the undergrowth. Played in 4 hours and 20 minutes. They did have a beverage cart out. The cart we got had no park brake. We went back to exchange it but no one around to report issue so I stuck with it. The cart was in rough shape, no working park brake and windshield would not stay up in the wind.
Desert Dunes
Played with another twosome. Had a great time. Course was in good shape and no wind.
Potential
This course has tons of potential. Need more signage this would help pace of play. Better course maintenance lots of brown spots. Course layout out sheets would greatly help due to the amount of blind shots.
