Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Some of the greens and a lot of the fairways were in pretty tough shape.

Not the course I remember

Played about 20 years ago, the greens where the biggest disappointment. They need more attention, bumpy and speeds vary a lot. It was a difficult day to score.

Great Layout

The design of the course was great. The tee boxes were very good they just needed mowing. Fairways were decent and most sand traps were good. Some traps were mucky. 3 or 4 greens had large areas that were patchy but the pin was generally kept out of the area. I had a positive experience overall.

Recommend but...

Clearly was a nice course at one time. Maintenance lacking now. Greens rolled well but many bare spots. With greens as sloped as these, many pin positions were unplayable. Suggest more thought in placing pins on many holes. In addition to making the course more playable, better pin placement would speed pace of play. Overall, a fair value in the Palm Springs area at $60. Would play again for the same price.

great layout, friendly staff

We've always loved playing this course, however, don't play it in the wind.

The greens were patchy and somewhat bumpy. The bunkers had clay bottoms under an inch or two of sand. We still enjoyed our day!

Pro shop staff was excellent and beverage cart was always near by.

Set your expectations properly

Played here on a beautiful non-windy day for about $59. Check in took a while because the register didn’t have change for $100, then they were out of carts and had to wait for one to come in and get cleaned.

Fairways had acceptable grass coverage for a value course and played nice and firm. Some tees needed mowing. Greens were not good, kinda bumpy with what appeared like several competing tufts of grass types on most, a few had bare spots. The bunkers I was in had decent sand but others had major water puddles.

Pace of play was poor and on track for 4:45, waited on every shot, a full tee sheet at 8 minute intervals pretty much guaranteed this. Only got 17 holes in on a 12:40 tee time.

It’s a fun, unique layout for the area. The price is fair given the conditions and it’s one of the cheapest full length courses in the area during winter. Just don’t expect pristine conditions or a well managed pace like you are at some nice resort, because you aren’t paying for it.

Poor communication

Pace of play was awful, tee time was 12:48 and then as we are trying to finish our round a guy comes around and says we are to be off the course by 4:40. And then he proceeds to remove the pins from the green so we can’t continue. Came off the course and everything is closed, no bathrooms open. Love the layout but is in poor condition this year and very poorly run.

Horrible pace of play

The course has a nice layout but horrible pace of play on the weekends the Marshall seem more intent on riding around looking for balls than doing anything to make the pace of play move at even a reasonable rate. The worst 59 bucks I gave spent on a Saturday in a long time.

Great layout

We've golfed this course many times and thought for the price, it would have been in better shape.

Some of the greens were patchy and bumpy. The bunkers had some new sand, however, only a layer of sand over a clay base.

Having said that, Desert Dunes has always been one of our favourite golf courses.

Pro shop staff is extremely friendly. The beverage cart person was also friendly and always available if anything was needed.
