Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Not fun

We looked at the reviews and they were mediocre but the price seemed right. The greens were awful and had a mottled look. The sand traps were beyond bad. Some had mud, some had little sand and a few had stones. The scorecard showed two hours and fifteen minutes per nine and we exceeded it due to several slow groups in front of us. The layout was okay and the greens were well protected. We played with a couple who played it for years and said it has gone downhill. I’m not sure why they continue to play it other than price.

The greens were a little rough but heard there had been frost recently.

Great layout

This is a very challenging but fair course. I moved forward to the middle tees and had a much better round. I recommend the middle tees for people who average about 230 off the tee. You will enjoy it more here. They still need to mow the tees shorter fix several greens and put a ton more sand in the bunkers.

Excellent layout with rolling fairways and

treacherous rough. If you want a course for a real test DD provides it. Good variety of tee boxes for all skill levels.

not in peak condition

a great layout with challenging green complexes. Overall fair condition. Rough around the greens 3 to 4 inches of lush grass. But this biggest issue is pace of play. I played on Saturday at 12:06 pm and the round was 5 hours! We waited on every hole. Took a lot of the joy of playing the course away. Also, the grill closed for food at 3:30 pm, so no 19th hole.

Not a good experience

It started with the Club running out of carts and we almost missed our tee time. The practice green was in poor condition. The fairways for the entire course were in terrible shape. The bunkers had no sand, just dirt. It was a shame to see this happen to a Robert Trent Jones course.

The front nine took 3 hours to complete and there was no ranger in sight. On the 15th hole, as it was getting dark and cold and we were waiting for the green to clear, a ranger finally shows up….and tells us to pick the pace of play.

You can’t make this up!

No we won’t be coming back.

Tough course greens in poor shape for the area

Really like the challenge and the fairways in at the Desert Duned. However, the greens are in very poor shape. Grass is mostly packed hard dirt and lots of slope

Worth the drive

Course north of Palm Springs. Interesting layout, beautiful Mountain Views, nasty rough. Back nine better (?newer?) than front nine. Biggest problem is dealing with strong gusty wind. The presence of wind mills around course should have warned me. It was very breezy out there. Overall good experience. I would play there again.
