Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Bad shape

This was my first time playing this course. I have always wanted to play it because of its history and the Robert Trent Jones Jr. design. I wasn't really surprised since I have read all the reviews, but this course is in terrible condition. Lack of watering, lack of mowing, bunkers in sad shape, tee boxes a mess, greens very patchy . . . well, you get the picture. It's sad because it's otherwise a really nice track and must have been "the bomb" when it was new, fresh and beautifully maintained. Now it is old, not fresh, and poorly maintained. If you can get a good deal on it, try this course just for the heck of it, but otherwise, there are much better choices in the golf smorgasbord that is the Coachella Valley/Palm Springs area.

Great, challenging course layout. Below average condition

This is a very challenging course layout and you can tell this clubhouse and course probably used to be a hotspot for golf years ago. Nowadays, it's still a great and challenging course, with tough greens and lots of blind shots, however there is simply not enough water and care on this course. I can't complain much as I paid $24 in the offseason for a 107 degree day. The greens are very challenging, however, they also have long grass and aren't maintained very well in comparison to other courses in this golf course-loaded area. It's worth the price, but be aware it's a very challenging, links-style course that will frustrate average golfers on almost every hole. The value was good, however I likely won't return

still the same course. from decades ago.

yes. the facilities need some help. but it's still the same tough course.

and if you think about a links style course that it resembles. that is

how it plays. when playing here you can clearly envision yourself

in scotland or anywhere in the uk that has those links courses.

but you're in the southern california desert.

the property is currently rough around the edges. yet the course is still

the same track from before. enjoy the great value.

The moon has more grass

Friendly staff greats you.

They need to water the whole course a lot more than now. Beautiful views, one of the best in the desert. Shame

Great layout, poor conditions

I played this course today for the first time in about a decade. It’s one of my favorite designs in the desert. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been maintained very well over the years. I still recommend it if you can get a good rate.

Best conditions in 20 years!

I paid only $26 after my monthly GolfPass $10 voucher. If you haven't joined GolfPass yet, you're losing money and invaluable adds, like unlimited video lessons and more. Back to Desert Dunes, I've played this course for over 20 years and this round was on the best I've ever seen it. Sure, you can quibble with a few greens that they have always had problems with, but on the whole, this course played great and the layout is really quite good. I'll be back, I always come back here!

Hidden gem

Course is well laid out like a link's style very player friendly no houses around wide open fairways to let it rip. Course has a few areas being worked on , greens where fast but your in the middle of the desert in mid June. So yeah it's 100+ degrees right now drink plenty of water .

The design is challenging

Enjoyed the place. This course is worth the green fee. It may look a bit rough around the edges, but it is a very good track and if you can play golf, then it's all you can handle. Guaranteed.
