Desert Dunes Golf Course
About
Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Course is pretty shabby
The bunkers are dirt, greens in poor repair and overall condition is not great
We bought range balls which were dirty and old and to be hit onto a dirt driving range.
If you can find another course, play it. This is not what I would call a “Robert Trent’s Jones Jr masterpiece “ as it states on the card.
Great layout, everything else sucks!
This place has such potential. The layout is fantastic.. The conditions are awful.. It’s clear that the current management doesn’t give a darn about running a quality course. Most of the staff should be fired as their attitudes stink. I tee’d off 25 minutes after my tee time. All due to the starter not doing his job. And pace of play is the worst I’ve seen in the valley… five hours is ridiculous.not a ranger in sight.
No sand in traps, too bad
Very good layout, horrible sand traps and it’s even in the desert. Greens ok, just to bad about the bunkers.
Liked it so much we went back two days later.
We saw a negative review or two from some time ago, but our experience was great. We aren’t fond of courses surrounded by houses, or indeed, whole neighborhoods! The layout of this place is exactly the opposite. It is kind of out on its own, but once you tee off you only see coyotes and bunnies; no houses! Beyond that, the course has some sort of interesting hazard on almost every hole, and the grass is healthy and green, with plenty of moguls and dips to make hitting it straight important. I lost a few balls, but that is mostly because I am just not that good, and I don’t like to slow up play by hunting for my wayward drives. The fairways are wide enough, I just didn't hit em!
We plyed Friday Feb 4, and had planned a different course for Sunday. We liked Desert Dunes so much though we went back. (There was a slight delay getting our cart on Friday, but they handed out free beer and by the time we finished our beer we had a cart and we’re on our way.) Most people we met play there regularly, and we can see why. It isnt a swanky clubhouse or landscaping, it is the course itself that draws people and brings them back.
Unkept Beast
RTJ built a challenging GC, which must have been beautiful back in the day. Course is fun, hard, but in a bourderline state of disrepair.
Course turf better than 1st time, but still needs turf care. Love the layout. Greens ruff, traps need raking. Tees rough too
Needs better management
Front end staff and starter were very friendly. Bathrooms need some TLC . Driving range needs TLC as well.
Desert Dunes has seen better days ... hopefully again soon.
I enjoyed my round and the 3 people I played with.
The course design is outstanding however it needs a renovation to get back to a great golf outing. The bunkers had poor drainage and no sand. The fairways were in good shape and the greens were fast. It was nice to have a regular with us to help with reading the greens. Even then it was hard to hole anything from more than 5 feet.
Value for money was superb at $59. If renovated it would be a $150 - $200 play!
Robert Trent Jones design
Awesome architecture.
A beautiful layout. A must play in Palm Springs area
But, but…..the owner’s stewardship of this gem is missing in action.
Seriously, whomever owns and sets the budget here should be prosecuted before the most ruthless and unforgiving Golf God available for an emergency prosecution.
Great design in poor shape
What a shame that this wonderful course has been let to deteriorate to such a poor state. The bunkers are packed solid and full of water. The greens have about 3 types of grass growing and are bumpy and don’t run true. Fairways have loads of bare patches and generally the surrounding areas are not maintained. This could be a great course but even at the lower end green fees this is not value for money.
Great day when there is no wind
The course was in good shape. Pace of play was too slow. It took almost 5 hours to play. Waited at each hole. Marshall was trying to move things along though. Number 9 Green was a nemesis as pin placement at the top of a very narrow hill in front of trap on a shared dual hill green. Staff very friendly. Much better experience this time with no wind.
Green fairways , well kept greens!
We played with a nice couple.good pace
Little bit annoyed by the extensively presence of the staff in the round. Even we had a full empty hole after us .
But great value and a true gem
