Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Best I've seen in a long time

Desert Dunes is a favorite to me but hasn't often been in poor condition. This was the best I've seen it in a long time. The greens are smooth and reasonably fast. There are some dry patches, and the bunkers are firm and not so great. Trending in the right direction and this great layout deserves it.

Not worth it

Course layout ok

Bunkers terrible, actually waste bunkers

Greens fair, many false fronts, sloped and mounded making putting difficult

Tight lies fairways

Poor driving range

Very Interesting Course Design.

The course is in rough shape. Definitely.l a ow budget for the greenskeeper. Traps are mud and you have to roll the ball over to get a playable lie. But, Robert Trent Jones built a very interesting golf course here. All the holes have character and I found it interesting, fun, and challenging to play. We are in the area for another 10 weeks and I look forward to playing the course again. FYI, the winds are stronger in the morning and usually lie down as the day goes on. We truly enjoyed playing Desert Dunes.

Robert Trent Jones would roll over in his grave.

This course has the potential to be great. Too bad someone isn’t willing to put in the resources and work to make it happen.

Not much of an effort being made now.

Mediocre condition but a great design

A great track design. The course is not nearly as well conditioned as it used to be however it is an interesting round of golf and the greens are quite good. In all, worth the money. Perhaps plays a bit easier without the wind and sure would be fun to try when the wind kicks up. Why fly to the UK when you can play Desert Dunes right here!!

NOT a 4-star course!

This course is rated as 4 stars on Golf Now - it is 2 stars at best! It’s a fun course with great a great layout, but it is in poorly kept. The Palm Springs area has far too many courses in excellent shape to play this course.

Robert Trent Jones Jr Beauty!

Love Desert Dunes! Certainly a more challenging course than the other two I played this trip. Got paired up with a local teacher from Joshua Tree and we had trouble catching the couple groups who started before us. Our pace of play was swift, but the members who get the first tee spots are rabbits! The starter told me on the first tee that the group in front of us was trying to beat their time record this day!! I was impressed. First groups always set the pace for the day and Desert Dunes is to be commended that their first groups are quick!! Greens were in nice shape, quickest of the 3 courses I played. Rolled true and held well! This was the nicest day of the week, weather wise, so I thoroughly enjoyed it! I played well and was happy with my +2 on the day. Home before the rest of my party had finished their first coffees of the day!

Terrible condition

The sand traps are pools and some of the greens were in rough shape. Disappointing how poorly maintained this course for the price.

Pretty good course value.

Bit of a drive from Palm Desert, into the windy areas, but not bad. Played at 7:00 AM was done by 10:00 AM. Beautiful fairways and greens, bunkers need some work.

Rain, rain, go away

I'm sure it would have been more fun if it hadn't been the one day it rained in the desert. And, it was seriously cold the day we had booked to play a Hot Deal. But, since the course was open, we decided to give it a try rather than forego our prepaid green fees. We survived the experience, but were underwhelmed overall. Everything was okay, but nothing special... except for "Phil", the Starter, and one of the cart attendants, who helped us at the end. He was very friendly, helpful, and congratulatory that we actually finished the round. We will remember Phil and the cart attendant, but will likely forget playing here again... unless there is a REALLY GOOD HOT DEAL and zero chance of rain!
