unexpectedly bad
The fairways were piled up with grass clippings from what looked like the first mowing in a month. greens were different lengths and all overgrown. Would be a great place to play golf after they hire a grounds crew that didn't treat the course like a hay field.
Present conditions
The grass was cut so high that losing a ball, even on the fairway was common. It caused delays as everyone was trying to find their ball. Lost several balls just because you gave up since the play got very slow and needed to move on. 2nd cut ball would sink to a full disappeared level and some times first cyst was just as bad. You could even hit a ball straight down the middle on the fairway and struggle to find it and sometimes not find it at all.
Too Much Grass Clippings Accumulations
The roughs were made unbearable with the super accumulation of grass clippings. Fairways were heavily saturated and bare of grass throughout.
The course was not maintained very good. Lots of grass clippings all over the course. Cart path only. No food or drinks available even though the course saying no outside food or beverages allowed. Greens were so slow. the fairways were like the ruff and the greens were like fairways.
Terrible conditions, no amenities, carts are 20 years old
Greens are basically a fairway. Fairway is inconsistent with clippings everywhere and dead spots. Tee boxes are inconsistent with dead spots and weeds. Many spots where there is massive damage to the course. Overall i wouldn’t play this course for anything over $20
Mow the greens
Saturday round and they didn’t mow the greens. It could be a quality course if they showed some love.
City of Atlanta is running this course into the ground
The course layout has always been fun and the location is prime, but this is the first time I’ve played here in several years and the facilities, carts, and course maintenance are atrocious. They have no food or drinks if any kind. No drinks in July is unthinkable. I would happily pay more to play here if the conditions and amenities were better. C of A needs to outsource management of Chastain GC to a third party again.
Not going back!
Nothing but water for sale in shop, not even snacks. Cart was horrible, every time I stepped on the gas the engine smacked the bottom of the seat. Seats are all ripped. Greens were not cut very short. May as well have putted in the rough. No refreshment cart for on the course. People were super nice but we need some Gatorade or something. Next to Collins Hill, the worst course played yet.
Slow slow start, better after turn
First 2 holes will beat up a beginner causing major backup from the start. The reroute of the course made the pace of play really really slow.. Note there is no driving range and the practice green was slower than greens on course. Overall a good course for location and value.
This is my neighborhood course. I’m fond of it cus I play so frequently but the pace of play is horrendous. Either the tee times are stacked too close or due to the course layout. No range and hole 2 is probably the 2nd hardest in the course. Big par 5, with double water. Rusty with no warm up, causes a real bottle neck everytime. Other than that it’s a fun course with a variety of holes, manageable hazards for most levels. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are usually in pretty good condition. One thing is the ranger is a bit of a pr**k. They don’t come around every to speed up play or prevent bad behavior. Seen some drunkards doing donuts in the middle of the fairway. He only ever comes to yell at you for carts due, after you waited 30 mins plus for yours with 2Hrs of sun left. Pretty impossible to finish a round starting after 3pm.
