First Time
I enjoyed the round thoroughly. The only thing that could have been better has nothing to do with the course. Parking is on the street and can be hard to find on a nice day when folks are out enjoying other parts of Chastain Park. The course is challenging and well-maintained. And there is not a better value in Atlanta. What I paid for 18 holes here (with a cart included) was less than half the rate for 9 holes (walking) at the closest public competitor. Golf can be an expensive sport, but courses like Chastain make it affordable without compromising quality of the course.
Tight and Challenging Track
This was my first time playing this course and yes a lot of the holes are close together, but the trees and the water made this course a challenge. Wonderful tee boxes and also true putting greens. The course is immaculate shape and keeping your ball in the fairway is a must because the pace of play is quick!!
Pace of play is terrible
Th staff is friend and nice. The course pace of play in the evenings are very slow. The walkers will not allow faster players to play through. I never saw a marshall to regulate the pace of play either. The players on the course appeared to be only concerned with their pace of play, with no consideration for others.
Good Course, Poor Staffing
The course itself was nice and well taken care of, but the staffing was not great. Apparently you’re supposed to start on hole 10, and no one said anything despite the first tee box being 10 feet from my starters. So at the turn when we wanted to go to the back 9 we got told we may not even be able to play that because a worker didn’t do their job right. After sitting around for 20 minutes we were allowed to go, but we’re stuck behind a group of 4, we only had 2, and waiting 5+ minutes on each tee box.
Could be Great!
Course has a really nice layout and it's location can't be beat. Really let down by it's condition and by the lack of facilities. Would be great if they could replicate what Bobby Jones course has done!
Can't beta a 3 hr round
We played 18 holes on a Thursday starting at 12:15 in exactly 3 hours. The course was full but the people in front of us and behind us were good players (no lost balls). The greens are in great shape but the fairways are spotty and hard (a lot of roll). The club house is closed so there are no food or beverages available that I saw. I hadn't played there in several years and you could tell that some trees had not been trimmed in along time. Like the tree near #2 tee on number two that almost obstructs your shot. Overall it was fun to play specially in 3hr.
We just played for the first time this afternoon. It'll be unlikely that we want to play there again as it has a major parking problem since there are lots of people who are not golfing parking there & using the public park. Moreover, there's no toilet except for a mobile toilet cube on hole#14 and the back 9 fairways layout are so tight & dangerous. We've seen a lot of beginners hitting balls all over into our fairways. The front 9 is challenging but that may not encourage us to go back.
Worst Pace of Play Of All Time
Played on a Sunday in early spring so not sure what I was thinking would happen but this was the single worst pace of play I’ve ever witnessed on a golf course. It took us as a foursome nearly 4 hours to play 9 holes. We gave up after 12 holes because it was so bad. There was no enforcement of pace and clearly a mishandling of staggering tee times. Overall terrible experience.
