Encino at Sepulveda Golf Complex

holes 5 &6 were under repair other than that it was great !!!!

The layout and landscape of this course is beautiful for its location. I enjoyed playing this course with the large fairways and mature trees. I believe this is normally a drier course to play - it was still suffering from significant water puddling and muddiness from the recent rains.

6:10am, 9 holes, break of dawn. I was the first to tee off, solo and walking. The Encino course was adjusted to be 9 holes due to the heavy rain that occurred 3 days prior, and a week prior to that. The greens, and practice green, were immaculate! If they were 10 yards bigger, they’d be PGA level—and they’re already a good size! The fairways are bad, patchy and uneven grass, even when it dries and they mow it, it will look atypical. The holes are quite wide, but the trees will punish you. The tips tee locations really challenge you! I loved the round, aerial coverage provided by the local Encino muni airport, and I would come back! A good walk too, not very hilly. Shout out to the clubhouse, I lost my scorecard during hole 1, and I called twice to figure out where the next temporary hole was, but most signs were placed well.

There was an issue with my reservation. I reserved for 18 but the course said only 9 and they couldn’t accommodate. They mentioned there’s an issue with the app. So I wasted my time and gas for no reason.

I've played this course 15-20 times. It's one of the only public courses in LA and they are well aware that golfers don't have many other options. The range is terrible. Practice area is always packed. Restaurant is omega terrible and the service is brutally slow - so good luck grabbing something at the turn.

But today I finally had it. I was set to play the morning of 2/16. The afternoon of 2/15 I got this email from the course:

"Due to weather, the course will only be 9 holes. It is a modified 9 holes and we will provide a scorecard with the holes that you will be playing. Playing the 9 holes twice is unavailable since the tee times are booked all day. If you choose to cancel there will be no penalties enforced."

What's even more BS is that it hasn't rained in over a week and isn't forecasted to rain again until 2/18.

Horses in good condition. Had fun. Will be quiet again in a couple weeks.

Great staff, Greens OK but really slow. Fairways really not good, but it is in a flood basin so expectations should be low. Pace of play was great. It's a great course to walk and the long Par 3's are killers.

Dunno what happened. Came to a screeching halt on the back 9. Took 30 minutes longer to play the back. Why?

I wish the course starters would just tell every group to keep up with the group ahead, and if there’s a gap, catch up. People complain about pace of play, well, they also don’t know etiquette. If the course starter would just tell each and every group to put their carts to the back of the green, grab their clubs and then go play, they would get off the greens faster and get out the way, instead of leaving their carts and bags in front of the green making the group behind watch them come all the way back to retrieve their stuff when they get off the green, making the group behind them wait and stand there for an extra minutes or two. It’s deathly frustrating, and slows everybody down.

The courses need to do a lot more to educate the new players about etiquette. It’s wrecking the enjoyment of veteran players. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a muni or not, it’s golf!

So tired of dealing with the same problems over and over. The courses need to step up and rein people in.
