Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
About
The Fountain is one of two 18-hole golf courses at the Welk Resort San Diego. The other course, the Oaks, is an 18-hole, par-3 course that is great short-game practice for all skill levels. Although the Fountain is an executive-length course, it is as formidable as most full-length golf courses. Even low handicappers will be tested by the narrow layout, which covers a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. In addition to a slew of strategically placed bunkers and trees that demand accuracy, water hazards also come into play on a few holes. There are many risk-reward opportunities throughout the course where good strategy will reap many benefits. The golf course has some tricky holes but it is not overly punishing, making it more approachable for a wide range of skill levels.

This was a really fun course. Not to big, not too little.
I had fun playing Welks Fountain course. It was a fun par 62. I enjoyed the fact that it was a little more than a pitch and put. The course is very clean, and the scenery is nice. I'll definitely be going back.
This course is always a pleasure!
For an executive course, LW Fountains Course has some beautiful, challenging and imaginative holes. Arguably the best exec course in the county and usually pristine, however a number of the greens had some sort of fungus issue going on making them very rough to putt on. I am sure they will eventually take care of this though. I would still recommend the course.
Very interesting & Challanging
Because it's built on a hill it makes for some interesting & carefull club selection. Uphill = more club & of course downhill = less. It has a bit of everything found on regulation courses & I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Greens in nice condition, fairways need work.
Overall great course for the money.
Pleasurable afternoon
Course was in good shape, staff was very friendly. Play somewhat slow due to some older players. They graciously allowed us to pass by. Course allows the use of all clubs.
Good Course
Fun executive course. Nice elevation changes and some really cool looking holes. Some longer par3's and nice par 4's. Used most of the clubs in my bag. I plan on playing again very soon.
The Fountains are Fabulous
We love playing the Fountains. The course is beautiful and challenging.
A great place to go.
Harder than one might think due to the topography challenge that I find makes it much more interesting. Longest hole is about 300 yards and that is long enough for me.
Great executive course
I enjoy playing this course as it doesn't have any par 5's for me to stress over! It is a rolling course so the terrain can be a challenge for people who miss the fairways occasionally! It was a pleasure to return to as I had played it a few years ago when I was learning how to play golf so it was nice to see how I had improved!
the staff is friendly and professional
the course has a variety of shots to be played which makes up for the lack of length. the greens are fair but challenging. fun course to play.
Crowded with long waits.
Very crowded with long waits on every hole. No course marshal. People giving instructions to very slow novice players. Novice players should be playing the Oaks Course while play on the Fountains needs to be monitored to establish consistent flow.
This was a really fun course. Not to big, not too little.
This course is a little larger than most executive pitch and put courses. However, it is easily played in 3 hours or a little more depending on pace. I enjoyed the scenery, and I thought the course was very well maintained. I would definitely golf here again.
This course is perfect for golfers looking to test their skills or improve their game
Trying to return to golf after a 20 year absence. Have been playing short executive golf courses. Decided upon this course as a next step because it has 8 par fours and 10 par threes. Playing from the back tees was quite a challenge and motivates me to continue to work on my game. I recommend playing this course to anyone looking to test every aspect of their game.
Short course, fun when you have a variety of golf abilities in your group, but that generally makes the pace of play quite slow.
Course was in good shape, just enough challenges to work most of the clubs in your bag.
For an executive course it's challenging. Nicely kept up.
No players assistants to keep slow players moving along. We got stuck behind some beginners otherwise we would have finished in 3 hrs instead of 4.5.
Play somewhere else
this course caters to the residents and views the golfnow customers as second rate. I left the course after 4 holes, 3 of which were par 3- all this took at least 1 hour 20 min- several groups backed up at the tee. No notification on Golfnow about a tournament
Great Executive for a Great Price
This is a great executive course for a great price. The staff is friendly and course is nice and long for an executive. You can still use the driver on a few holes.
O Marshall ... Where Art Thou?
I love playing at Welk's Fountain Course.. Great Challenges for such a short layout. There are some very pretty holes through the mountain passes. And if you like to hit a driver, you'll have a nice time pulling out the big gun. Just hit it accurately.. This course is fun for most skill levels..
My only complaint is that a Marshall should watch the course a bit closer. Yes, I understand it is a resort course but sometime on the back nine, a group of 8... (four carts)... decided to jump in... Maybe they tried to play earlier. and took a break because it was cold. But there was no excuse on an already slow day to have a this happen. It took over 4 and 1/2 hours to play. That's crazy.
The only other thing is that the long par 3/4 16th. What is the real distance to the whole. I see a number of different distances and It's always baffling... it says 227 yds but it's a nice 3 wood down a substantial elevation drop...
Great course conditions and challeging layout.
Welk Fountains is a great exec course, challenging and inventive holes, very well kept and affordable tee times availble if you look.
This course has very maintained.
This course is in the resort . So we do not feel any stress which is good.
Welk conditions Poor
I used to call welk resort my home coarse and have golfed there for almost 3 years. I have never seen the coarse in such dispair... Granted they are removing summer grass ( so they said ) but that does not call for the conditions of the greens and fairways to look like they do. And to charge full price for weekend play during this I think is unfair...
