This is winter golf so....
with that in mind you can expect cart path only and wet/muddy conditions with grass not perfect in fairways and such. The red clay type dirt they have under the grass is very sticky and thick creating alot of touch shots unless picked perfectly clean off the deck.It can certainly slow down your swing making shots come up short constantly.Greens rolled pretty good since they were slightly long and pretty damp and trying to get the speed down was particularly challenging.all in all it was a fun round considering other parts of the us are freezing or covered with some I am grateful CA is a golf oasis year round andeven though conditions aren't perfect they do allow us to play and still enjoy it.Our round about 4 hrs 45 mins our foursome was constantly waiting for the twosome in front of us but we still finished in less then 5 hrs and give ya time to talk but it can be frustrating when people start bunching up behind you due to two people who just don't get they need to stay up with group in front of them but they don't really marshall this course leading to those situations
Slowest pace of play of ever & Marshall's don’t care
I’m a member at a few clubs from Florida to California & was really in awww with the lack of care the course has for rules or pace of play
They claimed it was slow due to cart path only
I walked 18 holes in 3 hours & 20 minutes at a home course running 6700 yards
The issue with this course is you get the kids coming and hitting 2-3 off the tee box
2-3 approach shots after they shank em
And the Marshalls don’t ever hold anyone to the pace of play set per hole
Meh
Pace of play was deathly slow. Seemed like this is the place newbie’s come to play, young kids without golf etiquette. Needs a Marshall. Fairway grass was thin and muddy, tee boxes weren’t amazing and greens were bumpy with long grass. Bunkers are hard packed mud with poor drainage. Layout and design was challenging, could be a nice course with better management all around.
Round review
The course was in great shape considering the several days of rain prior. Some bunkers had some standing water but that was probably expected. The greens were in great shape.
5 hours 20 min
Great layout greens were in great shape, but 5 hours 20 min!!! There were Marshall’s out but to no affect. Loved the layout and scenery but 5 hours 20 min!!!!
Rude members w/o golf etiquette!!!
As always the course was in excellent shape!!! Unfortunately maybe Alta Sierra's management & board members should have seminars/classes on golf course etiquette!!??!! I was playing as a public single behind a threesome to start, the course was fairly busy!! So I assumed that they would ask me to join their group or at least let me play through(neither occurred)??!!?? At the end of the front nine one member of the group stopped play, which they became a twosome,,, again assuming true golf etiquette I was expecting them to say something or let me play through,,,, but nope they just kept playing and holding my game up!!??!! 🤔🤔😡😡🤦♂️🤦♂️
Nice course
Beautiful day, beautiful course. Greens are good, but tough to read. Be prepared to fooled by some of the breaks!
Horrible pace of the play.
The day started with a triple AAA and then started going downhill at the 2nd as two unethical and inconsiderate old couple (who looked to be still 10 years younger than me) decided to drag on. Very very slowly they would go up to the tee boxes, several practice swings slowly and then hit towards left or right , sometimes the ball disappeared into the woods or grass. Looking for the ball for what seems to us an eternity. By the time we reached the fourth hole, we were behind the schedule by 45 minutes, and their front group putted out some minutes earlier. When we agonized for over 5hrs. 29 minutes, we realized that it was the longest 72 pars, riding a cart, in our 29 years of playing golf.
It was sad to see some ridiculous person didn’t have any sports manners or at least some human decency rather than being such selfish. The perfect weather, one of the most well designed course configurations, beautiful scenery and the fantastic professional services were all ruined by just one couple whose intention or interest in the game are gravely questionable. I will wait to play there until I can read several wonderful reviews posted. I feel with the pro shop staff who have been doing just wonderful job to assist the golfers.
Fun course, we will be back
Fun course, got slowed down about halfway through. Heard that's typical at that course. Won't stop us from coming back though.
Lovely and Difficult
Been getting out to other courses so we don't get stuck in a rut of playing the same 3 courses all the time. Alta Sierra was a breath of fresh air. We were the first pair of the morning, so the pace of play was up to us. There was one pair (probably regulars) who went around us on the 3rd hole, and they stayed well ahead of us. Never had anyone else behind us, so it was stress free. Grounds are well kept and the greens were slow with the morning dew but sped up as the day progressed. Some greens are hard to gauge the slope, but none of them have impossible slope. Not an easy course by any stretch, but I played one of my better rounds there. The hills make yardage tricky to figure out, but also make this course what it is. There are some houses near some of the fairways, but not so close that you have to worry about hitting them unless you really shank it.
We arrived about 15 minutes early, but the pro shop didn't open until 3 minutes before our round. No snacks and only bottles of water available, so my friend was glad I had a backup protein bar in my bag. The young man at the counter could have also benefited from some customer service training, but he was kind "enough".
Our cart was in great condition and had plenty of power to handle all the hills. Probably one of the better carts I've had vs other courses.
11 is a dogleg right that is sharper than appears. Lost a ball on that one that I thought for sure was center fairway. 18 is hard to see the green on approach, and it is much further right than it would seem if you can't see it.
Plenty of geese, squirrels, and we even had a group of deer join us on a hole.
