Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Royal/Indian
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.
Each of the nines carries its own personality. The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes. The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).

warm-up
course has seen better days, needs lots of TLC.
not well maintained...for whatever reason.
Golf carl stalled from hole 7 to9
very rough fairways but biggest issue golf cart kept stalling barley made it through first 9
Fun short course
Got off early, finished early, but instead of playing the second nine scheduled, the starter moved us to a different nine because they were doing shotgun starts on both the other nines. Had the whole nine to ourselves.
The greens are relatively small and fast with subtle breaks, not obvious to a first time user. The fairways are relatively tight on a number of holes. Landing areas, particularly from the back tees, require nice straight shots.
Fairways were a little rough, but okay. It would help to have a course layout as there is water on some holes that is not obvious until it is too late. Not sure what the pin placement info was about since there didn’t seem to be a discernible pattern. On shorter holes, no problem.
Course decline
We played the course just one year ago, but there has definitely been a decline in the maintenance and upkeep. The tee boxes are just rocks scattered around and the fairways need fertilization. The biggest problem is with the golf carts. We played a 9 hole round on 3/2 and the cart barely made it through 9. When we played 18 holes on 3/6, we had to turn in our cart after 9 and the second cart did not make it through the remaining 9 and we had to quit after 6. The course has an interesting layout and some beautiful vistas, but who ever owns or manages the course is doing a disservice to the golfer, in addition to the homeowners and renters in the community. I realize it’s “cheap golf” but it’s not enjoyable because of the cart situation and we decided to never play here again.
Neglected old course
nice course made up of 3 nines, the courses need maintenance and more attention than currently being given. bot tickets as an online deal and the the round was very good value for the money. the carts require a better charging routine as some don't make it a full 18 holes
We waited 45 minutes after our tee time just to get a cart. We quit after 14 holes because our cart was never going to make it to the end. It was a t totally disorganized mess and I will never go back again.
Course needs repairs!
The course is nice; but, several sections need some improvements with respect to water leaks and grass. The tee boxes and greens need some improvements.
The carts need new batteries or the course needs to get new carts. Most of the carts will not make a single round before running out of power.
Terrible condition
I hadn’t played here in 2 years-COVID. This was my go to course for 5 years prior to COVID. Some greens had no grass, hard as rock. Some fairways were sketchy with grass. Locals made comments that they never fertilizered as cost was too high. For the price they charged is was not worth it. $35 at the most not $63 . I will not be back☹️
Cart Issues
We could not get a cart upon arriving 45 minutes before our tee time. We were told that we had to wait until 10 minutes before our time to get a cart, even though there were 11 carts in the staging area. Eleven carts would be 5 tee times that carts were available for. But the person who checked us in said those carts were staged for tee times ahead of us. It's hard to believe that they would squeeze 5 tee times into 45 minutes. Upon getting our cart 10 minutes prior to our tee time, we noticed that most of the carts that were staged when we got there were still there. Now the good part. Afterplaying 2 holes, our cart batteries did not have enough power to continue. We had to call the proshop and have another brought to us. The second cart they brought us lasted 13 holes, and again we had to call and have another brought to us. The course and carts need a great deal of attention. We won't be back until their management realizes they have issue, and corrects accordingly.
Please do NOT allow groups of 5 or more!
Fast pace of play for 2/3 of the round & then a 5-some made it painfully slow! Winter rules are a must here as the grass is patchy and inconsistent. Too wet in some places and you get a mud ball while other shots bounce like they hit a cart path as it's so hard. Putting is a guessing game with bare spots. This course has the potential to be much better than it is. Disappointing.
Please do NOT allow groups of 5 or more!
We rented a home within the walled Indian Palms community for a week. Played it for the first time 2 days earlier with 2 local members. Played the first 11 holes quicker than the last 7 as we waited for a 5-some over & over from the 12th on. This round on a Tuesday was painfully SLOW as 2 X 5-somes were allowed to dictate the pace of our entire day. The 5 wives were out front & the 5 husbands followed. NO ONE was able to play through and on a few par 3's there were 5 groups backed up!!!! Hurry up and wait golf is no fun & this round took way too long. My group left after 16 holes as we were already an extra hour on the course than a typical round. The mountain course is in bad shape on many holes including a final green that's completely dead. Get a marshal to keep the pace of play and STOP allowing groups of 5 or more! Play at your own risk & winter rules apply.
