Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Royal/Indian
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.
Each of the nines carries its own personality. The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes. The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).

Good value, but you get what you pay for
The course is fine, but it looks run down. The "driving range" is an open field, and when you pay for balls you're handed a small trashbag with range balls. The signs are in disrepair, the staff are nice older gentlemen, but it looks like most patrons are regulars, so there isn't a lot of clarity about where to go. They have 27 holes, but the starter seems to just assign people randomly. Not likely to play again.
Patchy
The course overall was okay. Course can use a lot of TLC. The fairways weren't in the greatest shape, lots of patchy areas. Rough needs a lot of work. Greens were not as bad as the fairway, but could use woks also.
Good course, some greens hurting...
Well due to Covid times, there are no starters out there. The Pro shop advised people which of the 9s they were on, but not everybody listened! Ended up playing Mountain 9 twice, which was fine as we could play 18 holes in 3.5 hours.
Some good challenging holes. But were advised the 7, 8, 9 greens were being repaired, so may take a few days for those to improve. Other greens were good to excellent..
Nice staff.
Pro Shop
Not a good experience in the pro shop! We’re told no carts but went to starter and got one right away! Starter was great! Pro shop person was miserable! Course was in poor shape!
Waiting for your cart!
The course conditions have improved over the past two months. The problem and challenges that golfers have; especially, playing late morning and early afternoon is having a golf cart available at your tee time. Plus, having one that will get you through your round of 18.
Many of the carts have old batteries and they are not taking a proper charge. It's not uncommon to have golfers waiting for a cart to start their round. This is sad!
With the conditions of the carts, I can not honestly recommend playing IPCC at this time.
I forgot
Our original t-time got canceled so we had to scramble to find a last minute venue. I forgot when I played this course a couple of years ago how bad it was. The mountain 9 was a real goat track. Grass not mown, tees dug up from tee shots, leaves all over hiding balls, greens hairy long. The indian 9 had overall better conditions but marginally acceptable. Stay away
Palms and clover
Good course for family friendly pace. Friendly staff, challenging putting. Shortage of carts and range balls was a setback. Enjoyed the round. Beware of hidden water on approach to greens
Carts?
For the money (cheap) it was ok. Except most of ghe golf carts had battery problems. We changed carts 2 times and barely finished with the 3rd cart. Fix the carts!
Sad course, another one in Palm Springs that needs TLC
Played it many years ago, in its prime. Royal course was decent but Indian needs much improvement with long blotchy fairway grass and areas of weeds and dead plants. However greens were fine.
Pin placement
#8 on Royal was not a legal pin placement. Ball would not stop rolling within about 8 feet of the cup.
No rangers on the course to keep groups moving.
good value for value at deal pricing
course needs more TLC but its getting back to pre Covid status.
Poor conditions
Rough has grass, leaves, palm fonds, branches, etc laying on the ground. Piles of dead grass that had been removed from the fairways, left laying in the open unseeded areas. Bathroom code wouldn't work, phone at the pro shop rang busy over several tries, cart battery only good for 9 holes. No marshal, 2 hrs 20 minutes for front 9.
Fairways and greens actually fair/good condition.
I see Mountain is open, but the 'green' on 9 looks like a sand green.....
Course seems more downhill every year
Disappointed
This course has seen better days. The course conditions are marginal and needs some serious attention. Too many weeds, gophers and trees that need trimming or removal. I understand there may be issues with Covid, but there is no excuse for seeing good reviews for a course in such distress. Sorry I didn’t take any pics to share.
