Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

Worth The Trip!

My sons and I have started playing courses all around Atlanta, but CR was abit of a trip from North Cobb. However, it was more than worth it. It is an Arnold Palmer designed course build on top of granite similar to Stone Mtn. It is a beautiful course and very challenging. The greens look like postage stamps at times, but the greens were in incredible condition. Probably the best greens I played this year. We struggled on the front 9 but we found our groove on the back nine and had a great time. We WILL be going back.

Cherokee Run

Great course great layout would love to see some trees cut and get the back tee for 8 back in play. The greens are outstanding they have speed and roll smooth.

Course is always a good challenge. One of the best in the Atlanta area

The price is very reasonable and the kitchen does a great hot dog.

This is always a must play on your play list and worth any drive amount to get there.

It never disappoints.

Great, challenging course... but

I really enjoyed the course. It was very well maintained and the level of challenge was about a 4 out of 5. I booked thru Golf Now and made a partial payment for the booking. My receipt said that I would owe $66.50 upon arrival, but was charged $70. It's just $3.50, but I expect honest practices and either Golf Now or Cherokee Run are pinching off a little more than they should. This made my overall experience at the course not as satisfying as it should have been.

Great Decline

Cherokee Run is one of the most challenging layouts in Northeast Georgia. The course was known for its beautiful fast greens and premium on shot making. In its past glory, conditioning was typically good to very good. Cherokee Run is now a shell of its former self. The Greens, while well maintained, are slow. Overall coarse condition is at best poor and boarding on unplayable. This layout is too difficult for a golfer to contend with bare fairways, ungroomed bunkers some filled with weeds, and rough that has been grown too long between mowing. Overall, the course is simply shabby akin to pasture turned golf course. Recent years have been some of the financially best times for golf courses since the early 2000s. It is unclear why Cherokee Run has been allowed to rot.

great track, good hot deal value!

The course is in great condition! Some of the Tee Boxes need a little TLC, but greens/fairways are wonderful. A couple of traps are just hard packed dirt so you have to treat them as such and not really sand bunkers.

Greens are fast but true.

Not what it used to be

I have played here about 5-6 times. This is one of the best public layouts in GA and is a great test of golf.

Conditions however, have declined the last few times I have played. Bunkers were in the worst condition I have ever seen with more rocks than sand in most hazards. You could also seen the lining in a few of them. Fairways were very dry with brown patches throughout the course. Some of the blue tee boxes were really poor, especially hole 2. Greens were in great shape which was surprising given everything else.

Amenities are always good with nice carts, a good clubhouse but didn’t come across a beverage cart during my 18 holes in peak August heat.

Would not pay the normal $70 for 18 holes as it is not worth that but will play for $32 again whenever there is a hot deal.

Some of the best greens around Atlanta

Greens were in amazing condition

Vastly better than some private clubs that i have played in recent months

It is a tricky layout with many forced carries

Little inconsistent bounce around greens

Some like concrete others spin back

Greens are narrow and long

Or short and wide - 10

It takes many rounds to learn the course

Rough is brutally hard

Easy to lose balls

Fairways were in excellent condition

My criticisms remain

Blue tee on 2nd hole is horrible

Overhanging trees on 2 and 12 need to be trimmed back

Some tees were very hard - needed water

Staff were wonderful
