Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

I really like the layout of this course. You have to hit your shots to set up your next shot. The greens have always been quick and will challenge your short game and putting. Overall a great course.

Tough course but nice track!

You better be able to hit your ball if you wanna play this course! It is not amenable to a high handicapper. If you shoot over a 100, don’t frustrate yourself. I tend to shoot mid 80s or lower and I struggled significantly with it’s being my first time playing. Your goons get some double bogeys and few pars. But to be clear, it’s a really nice course and the greens are still healthy but not fast, the latter of which I prefer. The course is a very creative and challenging layout with A LOT of doglegsc bunkers, and a reasonable number of water hazards. Many of the fairways are tilted so you have to place your ball strategically for your next shot; and play the “slope.” Carts are in great shape and staff was friendly with a nice clubhouse.

Great course

Everyone was very friendly and helpful at the club and the course was an excellent challenge. Only thing that could improve is there’s a huge balcony overlooking the course but no tables or chairs

Will definitely come back

Best value around Atlanta

I think Cherokee Run is the best combination of price and condition in the Atlanta area. I live in the middle of the city and it takes me about 35 minutes to get out to the course.

The course was in great shape for a mid-November tee time. My only complaint on conditions are that there are a ton of dead leaves all over the course. While this is to be expected in the fall, it would be helpful if the course had a member of the grounds crew doing laps with a blower. It was not uncommon for a member of our foursome to see their tee shot down in the fairway, but be unable to find the ball once we drove up to it because of all the leaves.

Pace of play was fine for public golf around Atlanta, but not great. It took us about 5 hours to play our round.

Course layout was fun, but make no mistake, this is a hard and hilly track with a decent amount of blind shots. The blind shots coupled with all the leaves scattered on the course made for a lot of “lost balls” that felt like they should have been in play.

Overall I’d absolutely recommend this course to fellow golfers.

Fast Greens

Kinda your typical tree lined North GA golf course. Many holes have forced carries on the approach which makes for some tough decisions. Fairways and greens were nice. Plays shorter than the ~6500 from the blue tees due to elevation. A couple of really strange holes like hole 8 and 9 with weird/blind tee shots and long approaches. Bunkers were mud/hard packed even though we haven’t had rain in weeks. Pace of play was brutal. No cart service available . Finally saw a ranger on hole 16. Worth the play if you haven’t before, but other courses in the area offer better amenities and service.

Hilly and challenging

I’ve only played the course twice because it’s not on here most of the time. A good amount of narrow fairways so your tee off had better be accurate! Greens were perfect and rolled a little fast but that’s ok. I was paired up with two other guys who were more experienced than I was which I didn’t care too much for, but I understand that’s the nature of playing on a weekend. Great course though.
