frustrated golfer
Stay in the fairway. Several shots just several feet off the fairway and your ball is lost. Very frustrating.
If you play a lot of golf, you'll want to read this review
Ok. I play a lot of golf. And I play from the back tees. On average I shoot two strokes over par with the very occasional low round of 68 and even more occasional high round of 82 when I'm playing a really tough course where if you miss it off the tee you're OB or in water and having to re-tee your ball. Three weeks ago I was invited to play Atlanta Athletic Club Riverside by a friend. Ok, obviously, that course and everything about it is in the stratosphere. So, I know the possibilities of what can be done when there are no budget constraints to a golf course. But, I also enjoy playing places like Reunion, Trophy Club, St Marlo, Ashton Hills, Cherokee Run, etc. Lately, I've really enjoyed playing the UGA Golf Course up in Athens. So, you can see by the courses I play, that I'm not judging the courses I play based on the amazing facility at AAC. BUT... the only thing about the Oaks Course that is worth the drive might be the greens. I say might and it depends upon how far you drive. Me? I drove an hour and ten minutes to play here. I will not be going back... ever. It's not because I was treated poorly, or because of this or that. It's just a ho-hum course where you'll see no real challenges in front of you. The longest par 4 was 422yds, but it played more like 380yds. And the longest par 5 was like 550yds I think. The rough on some holes was far too deep. I played with a local fellow who moved to the backs to play with me and he hit a fade every hole off the tee. Several holes he was in the right rough and we couldn't find his ball. #10 is a medium length par 5. We couldn't find his ball and from the tee it looked like he hit it right down the middle. Real shame here. Netting it out, if I had to play here and there were no other options I'd go back, but other than that I will not go here again.
DISCLAIMER:
I enjoy very challenging golf. I enjoy being tortured on the tee. I enjoy having to shape the ball left to right or right to left, or else having to take less of the tee to find the fairway. That's my idea of golf. On this course, you can bomb driver all day long and not have any difficulty. But, if you're a chopper, you're in Covington and you want an easy round, this might be right up your alley.
Fun course and great value
First time playing this course. The greens are still recovering from the aireation, but aren't too bad. Overall condition was very good considering the lack of rain we have been having. If you can catch a Hot Deal here, I'd say it is one of the the best values in metro Atlanta easily for quality and enjoyment of golf.
I'll definitely be going back soon.
Practice day
Greens had been aerated recently but were healthy. Rest of course in great shape. Staff and starter very helpful. Enjoyed the day with a friend.
challenging but fair
course was in pretty good condition; greens had been aerated and were sandy.
Fun and Challenging Course
The Oaks was a fun and somewhat challenging golf course. The greens and fairways are in excellent condition
Great value, excellent condition
This golf course is kept up really well. The greens, tees, fairways and rough, are all manicured perfectly. Cart paths can be a little bumpy in places but are not a big problem. The value (course conditions/dollars paid) is EXCELLENT!
Nice course
As always greens were in great shape. Course is fun to play.
Perfect
There is nothing you can say bad about The Oaks. It plays well wet too.
Nice course
Great corse for the money. Friendly staff and an overall great value.
Great Course
Found a great deal, played for about $20. A super fun round of golf, the course was in phenomenal shape, great greens, nice tee boxes, fairways were well kept. Will be playing again soon.
Ready to go back
Great layout. Makes you hit a lot of different shots off of the tee. Fairways and greens were both in excellent condition. A few of the bunkers needed some work, but overall an excellent course. Looking forward to my next round there.
Nice Course
fairways very nice, greens on the front nine nice and average. but the back nine greens very slippery
great course to play
i played here several years ago. this time was great i really like the course and do plan to go back. the greens were great shape
Great layout of the course
Like the variety of hole layouts....the fairways were very well maintained. The greens were cut very well for putting surfaces
oaks
Course was very good condition and pace of play not too bad on a sunny day
Nice Course
The course had generous fairways, and the back nine brings in more water ways. Even with winter grass ball sits up in fairway--not hitting off hard carpet.
great find
The course is well maintained with greens that are in great shape. The staff is very friendly and cordial. The layout is medium difficulty which is nice for all skill levels. It gives risk reward opportunities for the better players while being very playable and giving par opportunities for players with less skill. The approach at #17 over water will make you think twice about whether you have enough club.
Good layout and challenging from the tips
Pllayed the course as a single and was able to get around in 3hrs despite a slower back nine. The course is somewhat challenging from the tips. Everything is infront of you. No blind shots but have to position your ball off the tew to attack mostly elevated greens. The staff in the clubhouse was very friendly especially since i got there about 1.5hrs before my tee time.
Enjoyed playing and will return.
