The Golden Bear tests you with tabletop fairways at PGA WEST - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
If your shot's too wild, it's rolling up, often down into the desert. That's just one bit of the showmanship at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament course. This was designed to hold a PGA event, but it's spent its days delivering damage and fun to regular hackers.
Nicklaus particularly tests your short game with his bunkering around the greens. Confidence in your wedge shots is crucial here. Still, it's not as tough and unforgiving as Pete Dye's Stadium Course or even Greg Norman's course.
It's possible to get lost in the scenery at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and there's plenty of scenery to go around with the desert brush and the mountains looming in the distance.
No. 15 is probably the most well known - and notorious - hole. Nicknamed "Long Island," it's pretty much that: a daunting 572 yard par five with an island green. The fairway's split, giving you a chance to pick your path. Either way you go, getting onto the green in two is oh but a dream.
"Nicklaus also abundantly uses non-traditional design features throughout the course to give the track its own unique flavor," TravelGolf.com's Jeffrey Rendall said. "In many ways, I don't think I've seen another course quite like it."

Slow greens.
PGA course are fantastic. We found the greens full of divots and running slow.
Great!
The only thing about this place is that you’re at sea level and the air seems more dense so you have to club up 2 clubs to get the distances you want. The staff totally knows this and it would have been nice to know instead of 5-6 holes in where you realize you’re not crazy.

Average at best
Course was ok but many others in area are much better and half the price.
Course was just average for a PGA Nicklaus.
Our cart actually quit on 15th hole and waited 10 minutes to get a replacement.
Play Cimarron or Indian Canyons instead!

Great Public Course That The Pros Play On
We played the blue/white combo and it was perfect for mid handicap golfers. The course was in perfect condition. The staff was amazing and very helpful. I would definitely play this course again when I return to the Coachella valley.

Fun challenging course
Course was in very good condition except for bunkers which were short of good sand, unraked, and occasional grass/weed clippings on sand. Greens were excellent.

Nick Tournament
Greens had been top dressed and n the the last 48 hours and they varied in speed. Tee to greens the course was ok. $250 a player seemed high so probably not a place I would re round due to price.

Got carts?
The course was really fun to play, but unfortunately, they were almost a half an hour behind when we got there. There were no carts to be had, even when we were next up on the 1st tee, we have to wait for a cart.
. Maybe this is not how it always is? Not sure because this is the first time we played there. Unfortunately, we only made it to the 14th hole… Perhaps if we were to tee off when we were supposed to, we would’ve fit in another two holes? Other than that, we enjoyed it immensely!

Excellent course and condition was great for the time of year. Club house and staff were great. You will get a lot of bunker practice on this course! Will definitely play this course again and again.
