The Golden Bear tests you with tabletop fairways at PGA WEST - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
If your shot's too wild, it's rolling up, often down into the desert. That's just one bit of the showmanship at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament course. This was designed to hold a PGA event, but it's spent its days delivering damage and fun to regular hackers.
Nicklaus particularly tests your short game with his bunkering around the greens. Confidence in your wedge shots is crucial here. Still, it's not as tough and unforgiving as Pete Dye's Stadium Course or even Greg Norman's course.
It's possible to get lost in the scenery at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and there's plenty of scenery to go around with the desert brush and the mountains looming in the distance.
No. 15 is probably the most well known - and notorious - hole. Nicknamed "Long Island," it's pretty much that: a daunting 572 yard par five with an island green. The fairway's split, giving you a chance to pick your path. Either way you go, getting onto the green in two is oh but a dream.
"Nicklaus also abundantly uses non-traditional design features throughout the course to give the track its own unique flavor," TravelGolf.com's Jeffrey Rendall said. "In many ways, I don't think I've seen another course quite like it."

Amazing course
Great spot! Not much to knock on this course. Pace of play is slow, but not as bad as other spots in the area. Fairways and greens are in really good shape. It’s a difficult course, and worth the money.

Fine course
I was a little disappointed that the grass off of the fairways was dormant. The only thing bad I could say about the course. Staff is extremely friendly, and helpful. All the tee boxes seemed to match up very well to a golfers cability. Every green was within reach for arriving on the green in regulation. The greens were extremely fast. If you read the green correctly the ball went where it was suppose to. The cost rating was based on a golf now fee. I do not see the value of $400 plus for any time of day. But the area dictates that and a lot of people can afford thatv rate. They had over 500 tee times for all the courses that day..
I would play again without hesitation, for a reasonable price.

Nice 👍! On the expensive side but what ain't these days. Played a 1:30 tee time. Finished 17 out of 18 he's due to darkness. Anything at PGA West is $$$$$. So I don't look to play it twice during my February visits here ( unless a great deal falls in my lap).

One of my favorites
After the Mountain and Stadium courses, this is my favorite PGA West track. Conditions were great even with dormant rough from the American Express tournament a couple weeks prior. I knew I was taking a chance on being able to finish with a 1:03pm tee time. The front took over 2 1/2 hours and I thought we'd never make it but pushed hard on the back and finished the 18th in near darkness at 5:30pm. Had a great time!

Always nice to play where the Tour plays
Have played about 4 rounds here. Challenging setup with plenty of sand, undulating lies and water. Greens were running about 11 and were true for the most part. Not sure what has happened with green fee prices at PGA West, but they have jumped dramatically. $400 for the Stadium and $350 for Nicklaus is ridiculous. Excellent which makes fun to play
It is always a great pleasure to come back to play the Nicklaus Tournament. Lay-out is great and challenging but fair. This time the course condition was excellent from tee to green and even the sand in the bunkers wasgood.

Challenging Course
If you’re looking for a challenge, then this course is for you. Great condition and fast greens. Lots of VERY deep bunkers which make this course difficult even for the best. Several deep grass bunkers line the fairways on many holes. One bad bounce and you're in trouble. Great experience but not your everyday course.

Amazing greens
Greens were great. Course in amazing condition. Overall great pace. Only issue we had was ranger came at 5:15 and told us not asked that it was the last hole I told him I’ll give you the cart but I’m playing until it’s dark for $150 I paid. We finished four more holes without rushing. It’s 5:15. Sun didn’t go down until 5:50. If you are a jack course fan it’s hard and typical jack course.
