The Golden Bear tests you with tabletop fairways at PGA WEST - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
If your shot's too wild, it's rolling up, often down into the desert. That's just one bit of the showmanship at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament course. This was designed to hold a PGA event, but it's spent its days delivering damage and fun to regular hackers.
Nicklaus particularly tests your short game with his bunkering around the greens. Confidence in your wedge shots is crucial here. Still, it's not as tough and unforgiving as Pete Dye's Stadium Course or even Greg Norman's course.
It's possible to get lost in the scenery at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and there's plenty of scenery to go around with the desert brush and the mountains looming in the distance.
No. 15 is probably the most well known - and notorious - hole. Nicknamed "Long Island," it's pretty much that: a daunting 572 yard par five with an island green. The fairway's split, giving you a chance to pick your path. Either way you go, getting onto the green in two is oh but a dream.
"Nicklaus also abundantly uses non-traditional design features throughout the course to give the track its own unique flavor," TravelGolf.com's Jeffrey Rendall said. "In many ways, I don't think I've seen another course quite like it."

Amazing Course
First time playing Nick Tourney in the winter and it was beyond spectacular. Knew it was going to be in great shape with the PGA Tour here in 3 weeks but it exceeded expectations. Course is challenging yet very playable,. Wide fairways/rough area; pick your shots into the green wisely as getting on and not short siding yourself in a deep swail is important. Greens are firm yet true and great hospitality by the staff as always. Will be back after the Pro's play soon.

Favorite course
This is the 3rd time I have played this course in 2021. The course is very challenging and it is necessary to remain focused on every shot. Each hole is designed to make you think your way around the course. I love playing this course.

Phenomenal!
The course is in great condition! Staff was great! It was cart path only the day I was there and still played in under 4.5 hours. Fairway are nearly perfect and the greens where fast and true! This course should be a must for anyone looking for a great challenge and rewarding good shots. Long is better than short on just about every approach, most of the greens are elevated so club up and enjoy!

Cart Path only
It would have been nice to know it was Cart Path Only (PGA Tour coming in 3 weeks). Tough course to walk from path

Disappointed
The over seeded greens were in poor shape as the new growth was thin on every green. The lack of dense turf made it impossible to hold any iron shot into the greens. Putts rolled inconsistently too. Fairways were somewhat better but not what you’d expect from a high profile resort like PGA West. Liked the design but the greens ruined the experience.

Beautiful and challenging
The course was in great shape today, we were out early and made it back to the clubhouse in time to replay on the Stadium Course. These courses never disappoint!
