Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

It’s different but fun

Course needs a complete renovation and I know they are redoing the clubhouse but the cart paths are terrible, a bunch of fairways need help and there is almost zero cell service so apps are hard to get to work to keep score or range so bring a rangefinder. It also has a wild par 6 on the 18th! Was a lot of fun to play, tons of up and downs, no flat fairways and it plays tight.

worth an occasional visit

I had a nice round of golf with the people I met and playing the course for the first time in 10 years

With Peter, Art and Annika

There are a number of fun in challenging holes, but to me, the defining characteristic of the course is uphill and downhill shots on virtually every hole, especially uphill shots to elevated greens, which makes it very hard to hit greens and regulation and putt for par

work on your chipping before you play here so you can chip it close from off the green for a one putt par

since the course doesn’t go past the clubhouse at the turn, it would be great if the halfway house didn’t close for an hour in the middle of the day when the employee needs a break,

it would be great if you could send somebody Clubhouse to staff that

Pace

Pace of play was extremely disappointing. The marshall was just takimg it easy. Two groups ahead of us were playing at least 3 balls each. Definitely affected our group's sense of game.

Tee time was moved an hour with zero notice

The staff was completely unapologetic and rude about the whole situation. Disappointing experience, and after discussing it with others, it sounds like this is a regular occurrence. Acknowledgement of a tough situation would have gone a long way, but the staff really didn’t seem to care about our experience at all.

Interesting Course

My first time playing Lake Chabot GC and I was both happily surprised and a little disappointed. The course layout is somewhat difficult, which I loved, with a ton of elevation changes. The greens were very good and rolled true and smooth. The hot weather has appeared to take its toll, as the conditions were a little rugged and in some areas the grass was pretty sparse. Tee boxes on many holes were pretty beaten up. There are also a lot of blind shots. Playing it for the first time, I wasn't sure where to hit on some holes. Just hit directly over the yellow flags and you'll be safe. I'm sorry that the clubhouse had burned down, because I heard it was pretty cool in its time. Lake Chabot is a throwback course that I always wanted to play, and was glad I did. It is a must play for thse who appreciate older courses.

Not bad - interesting

You have to play this course once. The price is what will keep us coming back despite an hour away. Interesting course layout. Just watch out for cars crossing and adjacent players playing the opposite way. We almost got struck by a man errant golf shot.

Fun Layout w/ decent conditions

This was my first time playing Lake Chabot and I’m impressed. I’ll definitely play it again. It’s a fun layout with multiple elevation changes throughout. A few of the holes also have views of the SF Bay.

Greens rolled smooth at a medium pace. Greens are small and single tiered with modest back to front slope.

Fairways had better coverage than expected. Fairly green and lush throughout with only an occasional thin area. Most fairways are wide enough to grip it and rip it. However a handful are tight

The entrance road to the parking lot crosses through 6 fairways so be careful when entering and mindful of cars when playing. Especially during a busy weekend

The par 6 hole plays extremely downhill and really is just a par 5. Overall it was a fun experience and I’ll play here again for sure
