Pacific Grove Golf Links

We had just played Spyglass and Pebble Beach and many golfers we spoke to said try this course so we did. Pleasantly surprised at the challenge and fun the course offered. Back 9 was really fun with late day sun and sand dunes and rolling terrain. It did get a bit back logged at the 14th/15th but for the money you cannot go wrong! We were paired with a local couple which helped us out with shot selection and were gracious hosts! Definitely worth the money!

The front 9 was not in good condition, fairways not good bunkers not maintained, but the back 9 was excellent. Much better layout & condition. Fantastic views of the ocean.

Good condition and scenic back 9. Will play here more often if the green fees are less.

Great course! 1/3 of the front 9 and most of the back nine either have ocean views or are a chip shot to the waves!

Fairways and rough were meh, greens were good. The layout is really weird. #1, #2 and #10 are all par 3s. Can’t ever remember a full course starting with two par 3s. Most of the par 4s are short (less than 350, even from the blues), but the par 5s are pretty long. Greens are small. The back nine is by the ocean and is a way better side than the front nine. There’s also a number of blind shots, so it’s better to play with someone that knows the course if it’s your first time.

Booked an earlier tee-time (6:30AM), staff let me go whenever I was ready. I did book with Golfpass and it said my fee would be $55 with a cart but I ended up paying $77.

Conditions were foggy and wet, I had never played in these conditions before but its not unusual given the climate of Monterey in the mornings. The tee boxes were well kept. The only down side was the greens were freshly aerated*. I did feel it affected my putting but its a necessary to keep the grass nice.

Front 9 was good, and well laid out. Given my tendency to slice, I had to be careful not to hit any houses. Thankfully the tall eucalyptus trees saved me from a mishit.

Back 9 is amazing even in the fog. The conditions force you to hit accurately or else you are going to lose your ball. It felt like I was the only cart player and all the walkers allowed me to play ahead. Beware the deer on the course, they are all over the place so try not to hit them.

Overall, the course is great and worth the money. Many of the locals like to play the back 9 so the pace might slow down but it gives you time to take in the views when the fog clears up.

Women’s bathroom needs more regular attention,

heavy use should not be ignored, especially in the afternoon. Course was in good shape, greens are difficult. Views on back nine are stunning.

Enjoy this course, we have played it many times over the years, usually as a Hot Deal. This time the gentleman in the pro shop, when asked if the last few holes would be in the dark, said basically that’s what you get when you pay a cheap green fee. Wow, nothing like putting a retired golfer on a fixed income in their place. Pretty disappointed in that interaction. Be aware, a Hot Deal comes with a label.
