Pacific Grove Golf Links
About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Two Courses in One
The front nine is OK, but a bit tight with some narrow fairways. We were almost hit with a ball once. The back nine is completely different with wider fairways. It is, however, completely open with no trees. The fairways run together and it's sometimes difficult to see which green we were shooting for. We were almost hit again with a ball.
Overall it's a nice course, not too difficult, and that moves quickly. The views on the back nine are stunning. There are deer everywhere. The day we played the weather was overcast, windy, and cold. I would play here again.
Like playing Pebble
This isn't a world class course, just world class views...the back nine is as nice as Pebble Beach for views of the ocean....go for the esthetics, it's worth the money even if you just ride in the cart. Unless you're rich and can afford $450 rounds. Then you won't like this course. Otherwise this is a must course to play for the money...
Little Jem
Very playable, short, well maintained and scenic course.
Great family outing
Starter was very friendly. Pace of play was great. Beautiful back 9.
Fun Golf and Great Views
This was my third time playing this course. I really like it. It is flat and relatively well maintained. It is a great course to truly practice your shots. The views on the back 9 are fabulous. It does get pretty windy though.
I would avoid the restaurant. The food is not great.
Start early! Finish early!
How about this! Tee-off time at 7am and finished at 10am. Thats right! 3 days in the Monterey bay with the wife for a 20yr anniversary. I don't know what's more impressive. Me making it 20yrs in my marriage or finishing a round in 3 hours. Great golf course. Front nine your normal community golf course with houses and lots of trees. Back very senic with lots of views of the Pacific ocean.
Perfect day ends on a sour note
Hi this was a great day to play golf on the coast. I came down from San Jose and joined 3 other great guys for a 4 hour lap around the track. I was late and out of the car onto the tee and was horrible for 9 shooting a 50 then got it together on the back for a 38.
The greens are hard and you won't need to fix any ball marks out here and good shots often ran through the green. The fairways are pretty bare but considering the drought we can expect more of this everywhere. Had a great time and capped it off with some good beer from a local brewery a red English ale and decent food on the deck. We sat on the deck for an hour from 6:15 to 7 :15. When it was time to leave I regretted my front 9 and wanted to hit a last ball at the 130 par 3 1st hole. This final shot was nagging at me the whole time on the deck considering how badly I shanked it to start the round. I really wanted a chance to erase that memory. I got a wedge and a ball and the employee came out and said you can't do that you have to check in. i told him I already paid for the round and was wanting to hit a final ball for some fun. He insisted a replay fee would be required. I informed him my party just spent another $100 at the lounge and I was only wanting to hit a single ball. He stuck to his guns about this is city property and policy. Mind you no one had teed off for an hour and no one else was going to tee off. Any like so many people they can't think public relations and make a very minor exception he tainted what would have been a 5 star review. There are way too many people who can't think and make choices that extend a bit of friendly atmosphere and appreciate good customers who made an effort to spend their money with them. I enjoyed the course but would likely take my post golf refreshment somewhere else as a result of this incident.
Wedding Weekend in Monterey
Had a quick trip up to Monterey area for a wedding on a Saturday afternoon. Stayed right around the corner from Pacific Grove GF and walked there around 630am and was paired up with someone by 650am who knew the course well. Turned out to be one of my better rounds ever. Rented Titleist AP2 with a Oddesey putter. Great value for the scenic views. Front plays as a more traditional 9 hole golf course. Then the back opens up to a more links style play with sand dunes and stunning ocean views. Would recommend this course to anyone. Pace of play was 3 hrs and 40 mins roughly. Friendly staff too.
The poor mans Pebble Beach.. Beautiful!!
The front nine has a fun and somewhat challenging layout, but once you get into the back nine you'll feel like you've just arrived at Pebble Beach (which is only a few miles up the road). Great seaside view and a links style layout.. You won't be disappointed !!
Beautiful views
Lovely views, lots of deer just walking around, enjoyed being pair with another couple.
First of many times at Pacific Grove
I had a fantastic time playing this course. It was my first time and didn't know what to expect. Everyone was very professional and friendly. The gentleman who checked me in went out of his way to make sure I knew who I was playing with. He remembered everyone's names as if all of us were regulars there. It was awesome! Highly recommended and I look forward to going back again.
back nine views
The back nine makes the course worth the price .Ocean views with sand dunes and wind .
Super value and location
Our foursome was treated as if we were at a private country club. the staff was wonderful the food was good the weather was perfect and the views are very nice for $40 on GolfNow we played the course as good as most hundred dollar courses in the area.
Thank you
Always a treat to play here
I have not played PG for a couple of years. The course is in great shape in my opinion.
The greens were exceptionally nice and challenging.
You can't beat the value for a nice course, on the Monterey Peninsula, with great bay views!
I'm playing next Sunday too!
Back nine was great
The condition of the course was fair. The back nine views made the whole experience. The staff was great.
almost pebble
second time playing this course - without fog it's almost the same views as pebble beach and spyglass (from what I've heard) at a tiny fraction of the price - got a $29 afternoon deal to play which made it cheap enough for my wife to come and not have to play when the wind got to be too much. I loved it - perfect Pacific Grove golf weather - ocean view and the lighthouse just pulls it all together. Foursome two groups in front of us were slow and goofy, but that's just sunday luck of the draw.
Play, have fun, repeat.
Keep coming back for more great views on an easy to play & enjoy course!
Great value. Local gem.
Excellent course. Staff was great. Can't beat the price for a round with cart in the area. Look forward to coming back
PB Light?
It's not Pebble, but you feel like it on the back nine with the winds and crashing waves. The course is not difficult unless you make it difficult. Put the driver away. Can be easily played with a three wood. Greens are small, roll nice and in great shape. Inspite of the drought, the course is in decent shape. You enjoy the roll on the fairways. The third hole is a drivable par 4. Great value. Will definitely play it again.
