About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Golfer Reviews
Good Value
Good layout, fun to play. Views on the back nine were breathe taking.
Back nine with views of Pacific ocean
Challenging back nine required attention to details of wind direction & safe landing areas free of sand. Substantial elevation gains & losses make club&shot selection important. I loved it & highly recommend to any level of player. Green speed was quite consistent throughout.
this best unkept secret
Love playing on the coast of Monterey, especially when a foursome can play in three and a half hours. No wait on the group in front of us and nobody could pressure us from behind. Can not wait to go back.
Best game of my life
I started the course a little nervous but the first hole was an easy layup par3 and the rest was history. The greens roll for days and everything is manicured so anywhere you lay is still an great shot opp.
Ocean views for an inland price
The back nine has some of the most scenic views you will take in anywhere. Unfortunately, on this particular round, I had way too much time to take them in. This round clocked in at 5:15. Way too long for this course. I have played it 5 times now and this was the longest round by at least an hour.
Greens were excellent.
No rain is no bueno. We had to bump the balls in the fairway but other than that a delightful walk on a beautiful piece of property. Would play again with no hesitation. Good value.
Monterey In August
Short fun course to play. The Views on the back 9 are just awesome! It's no wonder why it's called "The Poor Mans Pebble Beach".
Beautiful Course
Love this course. The back 9 is absolutely breathtaking. Always love playing here. The weather was amazing! Sunny and warm!
Keeps Getting Better
Well maintained course with two styles, inland nine holes with some challenges then a links style along the coast with sand dunes. Wind makes it more chammenging in the afternoon. Deer along almost every hole. Best value on the peninsula.
Spectacular views! Greens are immaculate!
I play a lot of municipal golf courses and this is one of the best ones in the entire country! With the exception of a rude range worker, we had a fantastic time. The scenery on the back nine rivals any in the entire area!
This course is beautiful
This course has great greens and wonderful views. Will play again
Great value, awesome views
A great course with great price.. back 9 had awesome views of the Pacific.. A few blind tee shots.. looking forward to playing again..
Haven't played here for over 6 months
Have not made the trip out to PG because of work schedule, used to play monthly at the course. Course was in terrific shape, especially the greens. Will make part of my regular rotation. Not as challenging as Bayonet or Blackhorse, but a fun track. 2 distinct nines, wind along the back makes shot selection important.
We Had A Great Tme!
A lot of the elements of Pebble Beach at a fraction of the cost! It was a very pleasant experience I would recommend for anybody in the area!
Great course great value
My wife and I played this course for the first having driven by numerous times while visiting the area. I was not disappointed. Although a rather short course it was challenging, a lot of trees and O.B. on the front nine kept things interesting but the back nine was right on the ocean. Every hole had a view that you could pay double for. My wife is new to golf and the front tees were perfect for her. The added bonus were all the deer on several holes. We had a great time and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We also had a great lunch. I hope to play this course again the next time we are in Pacific Grove.
Poor mans Pebble
Enjoyed a fun and enjoyable course with fabulous ocean views !
