Good, solid course for the money
Course was in good shape and played pretty true. If you haven't played Hansen in several years, they've flipped the front and back nines. The new #18 (old #9) is a difficult finishing hole.
This was regular price for the course and the cart. The staff did not recognize it as such and wanted to charge extra to ride. They called the manager and he basically told them that they needed to pay closer attention. So we paid the GolfNow price. But the staff said they've been having problems with GolfNow. So if you get a discounted rate with GolfNow, you may find they want to charge you more once you get there.
Round lasted about five hours, which I would expect on a Sunday. Course was in good shape, especially compared to other public courses in the Valley.
Where's that dam?
Greens tricky, difficult to read for a first timer. I'll go back and do better next time. As an LA Senior cardholder I could have gotten a better deal by calling the course directly.
No value when you book a round and only play 13 holes
Our t time was 12:24 but the course did not get us out till 12:55. The play was very slow and we only got 13 holes play by dark at 4:45pm. There was no marshal to oversee the slow play. This was a poor value and the course should have given our twosome a replay coupon. We paid for a 2 rounds and did not even get close to completing.. Can golf now help rectify this???
Enjoy the course but horrible pace of play
I've played this course a handful of times and I usually try to play during the middle of the week, by myself, in a cart to get in 18. I played on a Wednesday, my tee time was 12:24pm. Got there about 15 minutes early, they said they were running 20 minutes behind. They didn't call my number to tee off until 1pm. And you could see that the second hole was stacked 3 groups deep already on the tee box. I was joined by a group of 3 guys, incredibly nice. The staff was very nice as well, although I only saw them at the clubhouse. It took us 3 hours to play 9 holes because everyone hole, every shot we were waiting. We had to quit after hole 15 because you just couldn't see the ball anymore since the sun had gone down.
I do enjoy playing this course, it's got the distance I need to practice on with tee markers over 6300 yards. There is enough danger to keep you on your toes. The greens were a little wonky. They were bumpy and inconsistent in speed but it is winter so I wasn't too concerned with it. I will definitely play this course again but hopefully next time the course is empty because it was tough to sit and wait that long on pace of play problems all the way through the course.
Good to play golf
It was good to play in Hansen Dam golf course.
Spacious golf fairway, kindness staffs, and practice range.
tricky greens
played 11/15/15, Sunday, 8:00 am, took a little over 4 hrs to play. looked like it got slower later on,backup on some tee boxes. course was in good shape considering the drought(they use recycled water). Pretty wide open course, tricky greens. have to remember you are on a side of a foothill most of the round. Greens were deceivingly quick. My favorite muni when I go out there.
in good shape
fairways nice and green greens a little slow but smooth played in 3hr 45min
Wow very good condition
Was very good condition but to many players in day
Anyway very nice golf course for bigginer
But for advance player is very simple
My first time play here, playd 10over.
Good course but so slow
This is a good course, wide and well-maintained. It is not tough course, I broke my personal best score!
On the other hand, there were lots of Korean players playing too slow. I booked 11:54 tee time but I teed off 20 minutes later. I also broke my personal longest playing time 6 hours!!
Longest round ever!!!
Not worth the wait. Unfortunately had turned into a Wilson /Harding course. Lot of slow players. The starter sends out way too many groups and course stays backed up entire play. 6-7 hour round on a Sat. Worst experience ever. Used to be one of my fav public courses but will never go back.
This course is wide open
Fun course, pretty generous fairways. The fairways are in good shape, nice green and lush. The greens are in good shape, although they are on the slow side.
Fun L A City Course
Overall the course is fun to play. Well run at check in and 1st tee. Friendly people. The course is in good condition on the tee and fairways. The greens need a good roll as they were bumpy.
Not so good
Aereated greens is one thing but these were sanded down more than I've ever seen. And playing in the morning with wet sand it was like glue
This course is wide
We picked the hottest day of the year to play. The thermometer read 102 degrees, but when you are in the sun it cooked you.
The course was excellent and the greens playable. The groundskeepers were watering and doing a good job of not getting in our way.
Great value
Course was in good shape- very green
A little soggy with all of the watering
No pro shop - but starter very friendly
Hot and slow
Second time playing Hansen Dam. Both times were on a Saturday.
This past Saturday though, was during the August 2015 heatwave (106-110 degrees). Please note that the course does not send around a beverage/snack cart, so stock up on drinks before you head out. Almost passed out from heat exhaustion after pounding 3 Gatorade's.
Pace of play is SLOW. Booked for 18 holes, tee'd off 10 minutes late at 10:05 am and finished at 3:40 pm. Since it was so hot, no one was stupid enough to go out after us so the guy I was paired up with suggested we go back and re-play holes so we don't have to wait in the sun.
By the time we reached the 9th green (for the first time), we had played the equivalent of 14 holes. By the time we reached the 13th green, we have played the equivalent of 20 holes. By the time we reached the 18th green, we had played a total of 27 holes due slow players and no one behind us. This day was not unusual, the first time I played Hansen Dam, it was a 5 hour round.
Despite the absolutely mind numbing slow pace of play, the course is in pretty darn good condition for being a municipal course. Fairways were green, greens were...green, and teeboxes were okay (could use some extra attention to). Grass was wet in certain areas (surprising because it was so hot) and the greens were soft as heck (had a lot of balls check up).
In the end, the course needs a marshal to come out and regulate pace. I saw a marshal once, but he didn't do anything about the groups infront of us.
Great Muni
Very surprised at condition of the course. Excellent shape, considering drought conditions here in CA. Fairways and greens are great. Staff friendly, 3.5 hour round.
I'm a 16 handicapper, playing from the white tees was 6000 yards. I enjoyed it.
Wide and flat, with tree lined fairways. Little expensive - $42 (plus $4 extra as single rider, plus $2.50 golf now booking fee) w/ cart weekday is kind of pushing it value wise.
Wide open, Hilly, smooth greens.
Played on a Thursday afternoon. Done in four hours and that was with waiting to hit every tee shot and approach shot. Fairways are wide, but very little roll...they hold a LOT of moisture. Greens are smooth and true, but they are sticky and slow. Once you get used to the speed..everything breaks away from the Dam! You will use every club in your bag if you play from the blue or black tees. The hills create a challenge, especially if you are walking in the heat. Play this course a lot, so...local knowledge helps.
Really like this course is challenging
Easy holes yet hard ones as well makes for a great day of holf
