Hansen delivers as usual
Overall great experience, as usual...Hansen is always dependable, in great shape, fun and the pace of play if you get out early is fine. Coffee shop and bar are 70s tired, not mid century cool, and there is no pro shop. Range is mats, but lighted. Course filled with regulars, since this is not exactly a chic part of LA. I am always amazed at the constant maintence crew activity all over the course, explaining why in the last 30 years I have never seen this course in poor shape.
fun course to play and we'll maintained
Can't wait to play this course again! I played on a slow day and finished in 3.5 hours. Would of finished sooner but caught up to a foursome. However, they played at a good pace. Fun course..long hitters truly have an advantage on this course.
Good public course in LA vicinity
Staff is friendly, the course is not too crowded and the course conditions were reasoable. I will come back again.
The Dam
Course was in Fair condition. The Fairways need a little more TLC but the Greens were in excellent shape especially after the amount of rain from the night before. Will play again and will recommend.
Billy goat coarse, use a cart..
Fairways a little rough, greens were excellent. Played with brothers who are local which was very helpful because the greens do not bend like they look.
So Cal golf
Perfect CoCal day with my cousin from MN! Unfortunately my cousin is left handed and HDGC only had one crummy partial LH set. Called in advance and reserved the set but didn't ask if it was decent. Tees were average, fairways fairly good and the greens were quite good. Fun layout except #1 and we had a blast.
Too crowded
I parked and saw 12 people on the first tee so I played at DeBell instead
Fun, scoreable course
Tee time was 10:52 Sunday., teed off at 11;06. Starter box was full. after 1st hole, there was 3 full groups waiting to tee off at the 2nd. I thought it was going to be a long day. Having played this course before I knew it would open up. from the 3rd on it was ready golf the whole way till the 18th. don't be wary of booking a tee time due to pace of play from other reviewers. Tee boxes were nice, Fairway was well kept along with green side and fairway bunkers and greens were rolling nicely, though my putting sucked so it didn't matter lol. Great day with buddy's and took most of the skins.
If you can find the hot deal .
Some of the wide open fairways . Playing there may help you gain your confidence and score .
Meh
Booking with Golfnow.com we paid $42.00 each with a cart. The course is very forgiving and has a nice layout, but it wasn't very challenging. Most of the holes are straight shots, with fairly wide fair ways and the greens are flat, but well maintianed. Most of the sand was soft with the exception of one hole, in which the sand was full of rocks (yeah, I ended up in that one). I just don't feel like this course was worth $42.00 dollars. Mind you that was the discounted price on a wednesday.
Dry out.
Course play tough because of the recent cold weather. .fairways were hard and dry. Greens were in good shape. This is my favorite city course by far.
El Hansen
El Hansen provided a solid golf experience. Course was in good shape from tee to green and the pace of play was steady. This is a nice LA Muni track. Recommended for better golfers.
Snail's Pace of Play
We booked the 12:24 tee time online and arrived shortly after 12 o'clock. The starter was super friendly and seemed like she knew what she was doing. I can't say for certain when we tee'd off but I would guess it was closer to 12:46 and I know we made the turn at 3:45. Needless to say we really only made it through 15 holes before lack of daylight robbed us of what was some really nice (but painfully slow) golf.
Good for beginners and people who play on a slow pace
Actual tee off was 30 mins after tee time. Lots of people insisting on push carts which I don't mind if they hit well... but they don't.
Fairways are wide open and easy to get on track if miss-hit. Greens are surprisingly well maintained.
Pace of play was too slow!
Over a 5.5 hour round and did not see a Marshall the whole time I was out there. Teed off at 12 and had to wait every hole from the beginning of the round until the end. I'm sure if a Marshall was out there, it would have been a lot better round and faster!
Good day
tee'd off around 0700, course was pretty empty so it was less than a 4 hour round. course is in good shape.
it's been 3 years since I've played there and had a great time once again.
it's a fun wide open course.
enjoy your round there.
Is always in good shape
had 2 doubles and a triple and still shot 83 although I played from the blue tees.
Fun Course with no frills
First off,
Hansen Dam golf course is not going to impress you with spectacular views or immaculate conditions. But what this golf course offers is a straight forward golf course with no blind shots and wide fairways for the driver challenged players.
Its not a hard golf course for a good player but it is fun and the greens are good. As with all the LA city golf courses, over-watering is a problem and the sides of the fairways is evident of the problem. I thought we are in a drought? While the golf is fun, just avoid the 19th hole. The food there is subpar but the beer is cold and at $11 a pitcher its not a bad deal.
