Rooster Run - 4/03/2017
Course is in excellent shape considering the severe weather Petaluma has received this past winter.
Greens are a challenge. Most of the slope is back to front so plan your approach shot accordingly. Lot of three putts when past the cup.
Bring something to eat. Food and beverage service offering is minimal.
Overall, real good value.
Great Course For the Price!
Course was in great condition! Minimal waiting on tee boxes for next whole....less than many courses in Sonoma County, for sure. Nice wide fairways with plenty of challenges and obstacles, but still very playable for the weekend warrior! Large, undulating greens make for lots of challenging putts!
Overall excellent experience.
Couldn't ask for a better day to play golf
It was 80 degrees with no wind and an amazing day to golf.Course is a pretty flat layout without many surprizes although the island green on one par 3 through me as I didn't see that coming here.Course conditions were good although I play many very high end courses so I can't say they were excellent in comparison.Somewhat easy course except for the greens, they are challenging and give this course what it needs to keep it fun. Most of them are what I refer to as a potato chip green and they have similar curves and keep this course fun and challenging. On the par 5's you can get there in two but putting out in 2 is a little harder,in fact if you don't know the layout or the greens you can make it impossible to birdie unless its drops in the cup on the way down the green if you leave it on top.....the ball just keeps rolling. This said know the greens and layout and you could simplify scoring here by a mile. All in all its was a fun day at just 3 hours and 50 mins for our round which is incredible on a perfect Saturday.Although I never once saw a cart girl with drinks or food which could make this treacherous on a real hot day.....so check into that before teeing off and enjoy!
Rooster is in great shape
We have played Rooster many times over a 10 year period but have never played it in the great shape it was yesterday. Also the pro-shop controlled the pace of play by not bunching up the course. We hardly had to wait to tee off.The fairways and greens were is great shape. We don't care for the creeks, but thats part of the game.we will be backlithanks,Jerry laney
Good value
Conditions were similar to other courses at this time considering the amount of rain we have received. Not as muddy as some. Greens were fast & in great condition. Staff must be having a bad day, no smiles. Cool breezes in the afternoon.
Decent course, decent rates
My G/F and I were vacationing in Sonoma CA and took a day out to golf. The area received over 7 inches of rain prior to our arrival. So the course was pretty wet. It does drain fairly well, but we were still cart path only that day. The pro shop is mediocre as is the bar area. I'll assume its a very locals type of club. The staff were friendly and the course was in decent condition, considering what they had been hit with earlier. We paid around $40 each for fees and cart via GOLFNOW. I'd suggest a early tee time and then hit local wineries nearby ....we did
Want to feel good about your game play here
Rooster Run thanks for making me feel good about my golf game again. Beautiful well maintained course, cool vineyard holes on the front 9, beautiful kind of Island hole par 3 on the back 9, with lots of long holes to break out the driver and watch it fly. Got on a streak had the most birdie and pars I have every had in a round and it was my first time playing here. Pretty easy to score well on this course pretty open not too many hazards and distance of holes reachable. Good fun course to play have a lot of chances for birdie and pars, leave pretty confident in your golf game.
Good but pace of play way too slow
Pace of play way too slow. Course condition good. Lay out, good. A little over priced. Other choices near by
Great Course - Great Condition
Although fairly flat, there is enough interest around and on the greens to keep you focused. Combined with the water hazards and the OB around the edge it is a challenge. Played off the white tees as it was my first time here - blues certainly looked a lot more challenging in some spots.I'd definitely recommend it if you are in the area.
Outstanding, Affordable Golf
Rooster Run is the best value high-quality golf in Northern California - period. I'm a 7, and played the back tees with my son (a 12) on August 26th. I once again totally enjoyed the course. It is challenging, with several great holes and no weak ones. The fairways and bunkers are in excellent condition, and the greens, while a little soft, are lush and smooth. Wind is always a factor, making it more important to think your way around the golf course. The course is also set against the stunning backdrop of the Mayacamas Mohntains to the east, with vineyards fronting many fairways. Given the very attractive rates and challenging, well conditioned layout, Rooster Run may just be, dollar for dollar, the best course I've ever played.
good pace
course in good shape, tee time was right on and pace was good for a weekend afternoon.
Great pace of play
The course was fairly wide open due to the holiday. Our foursome played in under 4 hours. Greens are quick and the fairways are generally in good shape. However, there does seem to be over-watering of the fairways on several holes. Some low lying areas in the middle of the fairways were either wet, squishy or, in one spot, muddy. Overall, the course is in good playing shape.
Great course
Almost everything was great, the course conditions, the staff, just about perfect. Only problem was there was no beverage service on the course and it was close to 100 degrees.
Rooster Run
It's a nice course with great greens. More signage and more info about layout would help. Not to busy but the wind makes it difficult at times.
Airport traffic pretty noisy. Constant wind. Allergy sufferers beware.
Course is a fair challenge. Constant drone from planes & steady wind kinda wears you down. Could play more without the wind
Challenging and Beautiful
Rooster Run is on the east side of Petaluma in the country. Somewhat challenging with many water holes, it is a comfortable course to play.
Excellent course, strange groupings
The course was in excellent shape, couldn't be happier with how it was playing, and especially for the price on a weekend.
The only thing that was a little weird was we were a threesome and they paired a single with us, no problem, fine with that and the kid was really nice. The problem was why did they pair a single with us and then backs us up with three groups of two. Instead of putting the single with one of the twosomes so it was two groups of three. We just held up everyone behind us and had to keep letting people play through, which made our round really long, but didn't want to hold up all the twosomes behind us
I would suggest in the future to think about it a bit before you just group people and look at what follows.
But overall, was really happy with the course.
