tough greens
This was my first time playing Rooster. My normal score for 18 is in the 80's. This course is mostly flat and very walkable. However it is not boring. There are several holes that require you to think a bit on where to leave your ball for your next shot. Hole 18 is a good example. This par 5 requires 3 quality shots to get on the green. The greens had been plugged and sanded 3 weeks prior to my playing. Despite that they roled fast and remakable true. The greens are tough. Fast and lots of break on putts but they are not unfair nor are they minuture golf goofy. Fairways were in good shape. Rough was fair. Bunkers were OK. Some had water from course irrigation. Good value!
beautiful fairways
Course was in perfect condition. 30 mph winds didn't help game played but perfect temperature made the day perfect for improving my wind play. Rates were great for the course and would encourage anybody who has not played it to do so. You will return for sure. Wish it was closer to home. Third time there and still only one restroom with constant line in club house. this NEEDS to be changed.
simple course
i love this course all of my firsts have been here first time i broke into the 80s and first low score and first time i broke into the 70s coursde play nice not too challenging but a great place to play
fun
Great course, i always enjoy playing here. Cart girls are hot also which is always nice.
Good condition
Considering drought conditions, course was in remarkable shape. Pace of play was 4 hours.
Rooster Run
I thought Rooster Run was a good course but I didn't think it was great. There are other courses in the area I haven't tried that I would go to before returning here. I would also return to some other courses I have already played in the area before returning here. I didn't like the loud noise of the planes landing and taking off from the airport next door. The clubhouse is very small and I really wish they had a drink cart out on the course which they did not. I was super grateful there was some cold water tanks to fill up my water bottle on a few different holes.
Course for early morning golfers.
Great course for all levels of play. Gives the golfer
different looks and challenges from all tee boxes.
Ptown Delite
Sweet course when mowed tight grass on the rough! Mornings better because wind picks up in afternoon. Ptown Delite!
Petaluma's Best Course
For the time of year the course was in good shape and much better than many in Sonoma County. We play here every couple of months and it is always enjoyable. No houses lining the course is a plus but the general aviation airport next door can get quite busy causing some airplane noise. I find the course 's design with the use of bunkers and hazards keeps play interesting. Pace of play has never been an issue. Complete warm up and practice facilities. The beverage and food service is adequate but it's nothing like when long ago the bar and grill was still open.
Good value for the area
Good condition with medium fast greens. Front nine played in 2 hours back 9 was excruciatingly slow due to much forced carry and slow players...needed a Marshall with a whip.
Best course in Petaluma
We were playing while the 49er's were on TV, so the pace was super quick but at peak times this course can be a little slow. All in all though, very well maintained and a very fun course with challenging holes and a natural beauty.
well maintained fairways and greens
The wind came up and made club selection a challenge. The greens were faster than usual. I think this course is a gem.
Very enjoyable course
Rooster Run is very enjoyable. Hitting into the rough is not always punishing but can leave you with some challenging shots. Not a realy long course, so I was left with a lot of irons onto the greens. The18th (former 9th) is very challenging. The placement of our second shot is very important.
The $39 deal with a cart on GolfNow made is very affordable.
20minute drive from Marin
We usually play this course in 3.5 hours however when you get behind a tournament everyone thinks they are playing the PGA . Why can't people line up their 3-4 minute putts while another person is putting. Let's keep it moving. Other than that this is the second best in a 20 mile radius. Not worth the $ 75.00 greens fee fri-sun. Happy hitting.
First timer
It was my first time out ont the course with an early morning tee time that we got for $29 with a cart. We were warned about the wind but it was not an issue in the morning. Really fun course in great shape. Green one to green 18 were very consistent for putting. Tee boxes in good shape and level. Most holes you can get away with a mediocre drive. Nothing on the course demands a perfect shot as long as you can get a little creative. We played the Champion blues and had plenty of short iron shots into the greens. The holes are relatively short, which makes 3w off the tee a great choice. I look forward to playing it again.
Good muni-type course
Not many courses in the Petaluma area (this one and Adobe Creek?) so it's the only game in town, short of driving up to Santa Rosa or over to Sonoma. Not quick, but not that slow, greens, narrow fairways with creeks and ponds throughout ... drive it straight or keep the driver in the bag. Pretty flat, so walkable, and lots of older locals out so don't expect a quick round. Municipal airport right (and i mean right) beside the back 9 with lots of smaller aircraft and helicopters practising take-offs and landings ... so there's something to watch while you wait for the group in front. And for some reason everyone was starting on #10 so the back 9 became the front 9 and vice versa. Not sure if that's everyday or not, or why. The wind was moderate, but almost always seemed to be blowing into our faces (!). Even the side winds seemed to work against us. Only 1 hole was definitely downwind. So it was always factoring into club selection. Not sure if it blows regularly or not ... or seasonally (spring/summer).
Found a deal on golf now ($37 with cart) and it was worth that, but not the regular price ... but then very few courses are.
Btw, played Chardonnay in Sonoma Valley two days before for about the same price from e z links (much cheaper than golf now) and it was a much nicer course - wide open, beautiful vistas - but blowing !! 2 to 3 club wind sometimes. If it's not windy, that's the better deal.
Awesome course
Great course, greens were excellent! I would play here any day!
                I highly recommend this course!
Consistently manicured and well maintained
Rooster Run has always been a local favorite for my friends and me due to the consistently well-maintained shape of the course. It's not overly difficult, except on the occasion when the wind whips up, making a few of the holes especially challenging. Overall this is a great course, and with Golfnow discounts Rooster Run is an excellent value.
The course is set up for a great round of golf, challenging from tee to green!
Course was in great condition. Fairways well maintained and the greens were in excellent shape. The course was affordable and the pace of play was perfect. The staff was courteous and helpful.
