About
The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Great day, if a little windy
I'd played Crazy Horse in the past, but stopped playing when they went fully private. I was recently pleased to discover that I could play there through GolfNow. It was a great day for golf, except for the high winds. Still, we got around in just over three hours and I had a lot of fun doing it. There are a couple holes there that are my nemeses, so I want to go back and try and beat them again. Totally worth it.
Beautiful course with bit of everything
Played here for the first time Saturday the 16th and it was a bit cold and windy but we managed. We loved the condition of the course. Very well kept, the greens were great, a few were a bit fast and caused a few 4 putts. The layout of where the next hole is does get a bit confusing at times but the beauty of the course and pace of play all made up for it. Will definitely being playing this course at least 4 times a year.
Perfect needs work on 4
This is a fabulous course, maintained, with spectacular views. Played on sand-coated green varying in thickness. But I understand that is an expected inconvenience and trade-off for wonderfully groomed surfaces to come.!
Has anyone hit a drive in-bounds, left enough NOT to roll off the 4th fairway?. My drive was straight down the left edge and still rolled off. Hope a fix is in the plan.
With that exception, the rest is laid out with varying elevations and some nicely cornered legs. I'll be back to check on 4!
Different good vibe here
This was challenging for the putter but plays close enough to get to green and have a chance. Bring your ice skates the greens are in tip top slippery shape….but realistically fun not like the unevenness of BHB. Exciting elevation changes and clear sighted course that offers a challenge and doesn’t beat your confidence… to shreds.
Course setup ruined the day
They’ve had lots of rain the greens are like putting on a basketball court. They rolled wet greens so they’re grass smashed into mud. There’s no blades of grass and that makes them super fast. Faster than fast. I asked the guy in the pro shop any course secrets, he said keep it under the hole. Then I find that almost every flag is on the front edge of the green. Ridiculously on the front edge. Whoever the guy was that set those flags shouldn’t have that job. He ruined the day. A tough setup is fine but it has to be fair.
Golf now
Super excited this course is offered via golf now. I thought you had to be a member. Wouldn’t change a thing
Great pace
Love this course. Fun layout, not super tough. Only saw a couple other groups on the whole course with a noon tee time on Saturday. Course is in pretty good shape. Drainage could be a little better. The fried chicken sandwich in the restaurant is excellent.
