The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Very Nice Course

Course was in fine shape. Greens were fast especially if you were above the hole. Only reason the course is not getting a 5 star is that the greens were not receptive. Very good value for $

Dinner and golf

The course was wonderful and we didn’t have anyone rush us. Could use some better directions regarding hole designations. We had dinner after our round and everything was soooo delicious. Waitress was friendly and very attentive.

COVID.

At my tee off time I was informed that singles in carts weren’t allowed. I road with someone I didn’t know and try as I might it was impossible to social distance. I’m vaccinated and not as sensitive as a lot of people. But I think timing is wrong for doubling up in carts with strangers, especially with COVID cases supposedly rising.

Unexpected

I’ve played a lot of courses in the area in Monterey and Seaside. It was unexpected to come to a course quite, to see green grass throughout the course. I lost something and Tim in the Pro Shop called me back and said he had it. Most places wouldn’t have done that very professional

Clean golf carts at the turn had a nice club sandwich very friendly staff who brought it to the tenth tee box. For an enjoyable round of golf I recommend this course.

Tee to Green

Tee to Green

This is a beautiful course. It is well maintained from flat tee boxes to true rolling green. I did not have a bad lie in the fairway. Even the roof is very playable. And the first cut on the green is puttable. I will come back to play this course the next time I visit from San Diego.

Fun course

We wanted to play this course for the first time with local friends, and it was nice. The staff were very welcoming and so were the members. The warm-up facility was very nice too! We started out, waiting on every shot so pace of play was an issue early on. Then, we got moving after the 5th or 6th hole, but we didn't know where we were going. At the turn we ordered great cheeseburgers, and someone in our group decided to sit and eat them. We were going to jump back in after a group or two passed. BAD IDEA. We were asked to follow a group of 4 walkers who were apparently very fast (NOT). Then, when we thought it was as slow as molasses, a 5th person (at least he was in a cart) joined the slow group. We were hit into a few times, and I lost all focus. We would try to play here again knowing it would be a slow round. At least we would know what we were getting into again.

Average layout, speedy greens

An average layout course in very good condition and fast greens. Normally not busy and pace of play should be relaxing unless you are in front of a group of members who will call for marshall to rush you even if you are not slow. They want you to finish round under 4 hours especially if members are playing behind you which leaves very little room for wayward shots and managing course if playing it for the first time. Nevertheless, worthwhile trying one time if you're in the area...
