The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch
About
The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Nice course
Everything was great except almost none of the other golfers wore masks off the course. I felt bad for the very nice staff.
Great conditions. Fast Greens. Challenging Pin Placements.
Wind and hills will add to the difficulty on a course that proves it doesn’t have to be long to be hard. Beautiful views and some holes that are very unique. A hidden gem in Salinas as good as the Peninsula’s great courses.
Nice course
I really like playing here, but Friday the 28th we had two fivesomes ahead of us and slowed pace of play.
Course Knowledge Helps
Course knowledge will help if/when we play the course again. Lots of elevation changes. Small and FAST greens. Some hidden dangers that aren't evident when playing. Forks in the cart path need better signage. Overall, a fun track and $60 was a fair value for a semi-private club. Apparently, GolfNow gets 'Hot Deal' times.
Crazyhorse Ranch
Rode the Blues (6106/70.1/130) in 4.5H mid day with the SLO Co. Golf Group. $80, played with Chris and Pat. Partly cloudy, fairly calm and around 60.
Layout reminds me of a mixture of Hunter Ranch and Ojai Valley Inn. Front is hillier and tighter with lots of elevation changes. Back more parkland style. Few flat holes with plenty of mature trees. Nice collection of par 3's.
Tees decently maintained with good coverage.
Fairways and Rough both more lush than thin and generally good to play from. Both had good coverage.
Traps were excellent. Well maintained with a generous amount of thick sand.
Small greens were excellent, they putted great. Firm, medium fast bordering on fast and smooth. No tiers, but these greens have more than their share of slope. We had several pins placements that anything not babied up to the hole was a great candidate to roll right off the green.
Customer Service was excellent from all encountered. Maintenance staff was oblivious however. Every member of our group backed off at least once when they drove close by as we were on the tee or putting. Basic carts do not have GPS. The small green complexes and all the hills are why the slope rating is high here. Overall, excellent course, highly recommended.
Still great
Played this course several times. It is still fun and challenging. Fairways are tight but not impossible to play. Several elevation changes add to the challenge. Fairways and greens are in great condition.
Fun course
Interesting and yet fun layout. Greens in awesome shape with quick speed. If I lived closer, I would consider a membership.
Highly recommended for a fun and relaxing day.
Excellent track
This course is a hidden gem of a track. Off the beaten path - but well worth it. Course knowledge is very helpful if you want to score well...I’ll be back.
Love this Facility
Go play Crazy Horse!! This place is great, it has tiny greens, stiff drinks, and LOOOONG par 3’s. Golf shop staff are friendly and helpful. Even the maintenance staff will wave and nod as if they saw the birdie putt you just made. I’ve played here maybe 15 times since the new owners took over, and it’s a treat when public tee times are available. One more gem on the Monterey Peninsula.
Crazy fun at Crazy Horse
Super fun day at Crazy Horse, greens were excellent, fast, but putted true and a very interesting layout. Great food at their restaurant too!
