The hidden gem of Visitacion Valley
First time playing at Gleneagles. Absolutely 9 hole hilly layout, the course is in mostly excellent shape with some bare patches here and there, but arguably the best greens of any one of the SF city courses.
The course is challenging and well treed, to make fairway position capital for second and third shots. The hillside layout has elevated greens, several greens are tiered increasing the challenge..
The staff member we encountered could not have been nicer or more helpful..
hard to judge the clubhouse as we are in strict confinement rules and could not go inside to the bar.
All in all this is a fabulous course and we will be returning regularly.
Nice 9 hole in The City
Played Gleneagles on a perfect Saturday morning and everyone else had the same idea. Took our foursome over 3 hours to play 9 holes. Course was a little worn looking with lots of dirt between tee to fairway landing areas on several holes. Grass was sometimes scarce on the fairways. The course had interesting layout and challeging holes with variation in elevation in tees and greens on many holes. It's a little expensive but so is everything else in SF. Views out to the hills and Bay gave golfers scenic distractions while playing.
SF at its best
This is the quintessential SF golf course - no phony posers, no obnoxious golf carts, no membership BS. This is a golf course for folks who want to enjoy beautiful SF hillsides flanked by majestic cypress trees and hit a few balls with a couple of friends.
So some of the tee markers are hard to find, so the start of the fairway is dusty, so there are no ball washing stations or benches to sit on... Big whopping deal - if you want a championship course, there are plenty of those, and you'll have to wait and put up with loud talkers.
This is actually my favorite golf course in the SF area - unpretentious, totally casual, a little loose, and cheap alcohol. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon in SF.
This is the "anti-golf course" golf course. PERFECT.
online booking is also super convenient and easy.
Horrible staff
We read reviews about the staff on Yelp but until you witness the hostility and unfriendliness first hand you’ll never truly understand. We played the day after thanksgiving. This was one of the only courses with any available tee times because we waited until the last minute. That’s pretty much the only circumstance that would prompt us to play Gleneagles ever again.
Hard, but friendly staff and great greens
Best public golf in SF. Greens are the best kept in the city. Pretty unforgiving in terms of difficulty’s but a great public course! Also the staff were super friendly.
Muni course
You pay for what you get for. Don’t expect too much but this is definitely a playable course!
Not Easy
Great course to experience tuff NOCAL San Fran hill golf. The course used to be a training course for the Olympic club.
Crappy
Disc golfers playing with us n watching us all the time, grass was rare a lot of mud, sand etc maybe this course was good 20 years ago but now it’s garbage
Tough 9 Holer!
This gritty little 9 holer has a great reputation for a reason. It’s a little rough around the edges but the layout is awesome. The greens are challenging and usually in good shape. Can’t wait for the coolest bar in SF to open up again. Best hang in golf!
Great little course
Very cool place you can play 9 or 18 with different tee boxes for back nine play greens are fast and nice. Ncga rated to post your score. Lotta trees very challenging. 577 yard par 5. Thumbs up
Hardscrabble
Gleneagles is regionally known for difficulty. Nine holes with different tees for front and back. Narrow driving holes with sketchy fairways. My friend and I agreed to bump the ball in the fairway.. the greens are in really good shape. Not super fast but true. All but one breaks towards the cow palace. Grueling fun.
Friendly Staff, Brutal Course
Pros:
+Staff was awesome! Friendly service, good advice on the course layout, and very welcoming.
+ Was not crowded at all so pace of play was nice and we could take our time.
+Good physical workout going up so many hills against the wind and in sand,
Cons:
Fairways are a combo of sand, dirt, rocks, etc. You almost never have a clean lie unless on the fringe.
Pretty difficult course layout leads to lost balls or awkward shots throughout the day
SF winds + steep hills make for a fairly painful day of golf.
Yardage markers are not easy to spot or don't exist on some holes.
Overall, you can play 18 for under 50 bucks here which is great. BUT be prepared for a really rough course with ugly conditions throughout. Really appreciated the friendly staff but hated the course layout and conditions. It is what it is for this price though...
Great layout, fairways are rough
Had a lot of fun and lost a few balls this morning but it’s ok. The layout here is great for practicing your accuracy as some of the fairways are pretty tight and going OB means losing your ball for good. Greens are in pretty rough shape, lots of impromptu sand/dirt traps, and a few sizable ruts across the greens that can give you some wild bounces. Pace of play was not a problem as there were very few other people playing.
Needs TLC
You could tell it was a beautiful course in the past but the upkeep on the fairways and tee boxes appears to be non existence
Terrible condition
Course was in terrible condition. Fairways sucked. Greens were decent but had some wire mesh in the middle of some greens. Overall pretty bad condition.
